"Double Irish Chain" top finished
I decided to go ahead and make a scrappy blues 2.5” strips based Double Irish as the first one of these Irish Quilts I might make this year with my 2.5” strips.
I did make this one quite large, however. With an Irish chain, the chain works the best and appears more even, if you use an odd number of blocks.
This one is made up of two blocks - which look like this:
But I did finish this just the other day. And yes, I really do like it. I’d not made one quite like this before.
I pretty much used blues and blues with a variety of blues in them. A few of them have some brighter colors - but I tried to make sure they all seemed blue though I do see a couple of blocks with cat fabric where the cat isn’t actually blue. Oh well. :)
Here are a few more close ups.
Here is the layout as per Electric Quilt.
And just so you can see them side by side - here they are - the layout and the real thing
So here we are - this is 1/10 for my goal to piece 10 quilt tops this year out of my 2.5” strips and squares. I did supplement this one with some blues in my stash, but now that I’ve been sorting my scraps by color, I have a whole big BAG of blues, so I can easily pull from them for future quilts like this.
Yes, here you can see all around this top that I have pixelated things. Those “things” are mostly my bags of 2.5” strips. I am not done with sorting them all but really want to finish by the end of the month. We’ll see if I manage. It is taking me at least 2 days to do each bag so I may not finish. But when done, I will have them sorted into bags that will make them much easier to use. Once I do get them all sorted, I will move them out of our living room.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
