Quilted Twins

"Fly by Night" 1/5 all done!

Last year when I was at my sister’s place in Florida I was rummaging around the older quilt panels that we had and I came across these Fly by Night panels. They were pretty but a few of them were still there. I managed to find 5 of them and decided that I wanted to make them for the girls who hang around the shop because their moms work there. (These are my granddaughters and 3 of Rachael’s).

Anyway, here is the first one I managed to finish. Truthfully, I’m managed to finish them all - all five, They are all different as I just used small amounts of fabric in the colors that coordinate.

I’ve been waiting for the snow to melt as I’ve found I tend to get better pictures not in the snow. But we’ve had snow so much that I tried to get some photos in the last few days anyway.

I will be sharing the layout that I made here - as these were specific to this panel.

I’m not totally enthralled with the photos I got - but before you see all 5, you will at least get the idea!! :)

A bit closer up

What I did differently than any other panel quilt I’ve made - is the fact I made all those scrappy blocks around the border.

I was really struggling with the wind. These smaller quilts don’t want to hang so nicely because they are small AND it was windy.

I don’t feel like these pictures did this top justice. Here is what it looked like as a top.

I went back out after the snow melted and tried to get some more photos. Here they are! I think the colors just worked better with the second shooting. :) I think I’m not good with snow photos!

Here’s the quilt roll.

I do not have the pattern ready for you yet - because I just haven’t gotten it ready. But by the time the last one of these is ready to go, I’ll have it up for you. My sis doesn’t have any of these panels left, but many panels would work with this design - or at least something similar. I really combined several of the different quilts I’ve made for various kids in this one.

I hope you enjoy these. They turned out far better than my expectations! The colors are deep and glorious!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
