Quilted Twins

"Mini 2-Rail Zigzag"

This is another one of the quilt tops that took weeks to get finished in 2023!

I made this with a simple two-rail rail fence block.

But since I used 1.5”x2.5” strips, it took quite a while to make. The quilt is heavy in spite of the fact that I used poly batting. Cotton would have made it even heavier than it is!

This one started out to be 88”x104” - but that is before I quilted it. I did not measure it since I’ve finished it - I quilted and then washed it and let it air dry.

This is one of those that looks exactly like the layout on the Electric Quilt program.

Here it is - as per the layout.

Yeah! All done.

And yes, I think it turned out very well. I am pleased.

I think it would look nice with white as well as it does with black. I’m considering doing it again with white. It really did use a lot of those strips I have. I love it when I find something that is easy but effective. This is one of those designs and quilts.

No, I don’t know what I’m going to do with it.

Yet.

Here are some closeups of the design and colors I used.

It’s not exactly a subtle or complicated design.

The backing on this one is amazing. It’s a Polish fabric that features the bleeding heart flower. I used to have this plant and it was beautiful.

Over time it has not flourished, but I enjoyed it while I had it.

When I saw this print last time I went to the fabric manufacturer, I had to get it. It is very pretty, and a perfect match for this top.

Here’s the quilt roll:

It ends up being rather heavy and rather long—about 104” long in fact.

I did make this over the course of weeks as shown in the blog post during 2023. I did just get it quilted and bound a few days ago now.

Here’s the block I made over and over to make this quilt.

The pattern is here.

Even though I explained how to make it before in the blog posts, I know that it is more convenient to just make it into a pattern and make it available on the free patterns page.

Here is how the quilt top grew from blog post to blog post in the middle of last year over a period of a couple of months.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
