"Corralling the Scraps" - ver. 2

I had made an original “Corralling the Scraps” that looked like this.

But I had saved these fabrics every time I cut up scraps big enough to get these pieces. And saved them. And saved them. I finally decided, “It’s enough already - Becky, use them!”

So I did. I did take these photos back earlier this month when we had snow in Poland.

I really didn’t want to cut them into any smaller pieces because I saved them because they were my nature or wilderness or “looks like Alaska” themed pieces. So this is what I decided to do.

I am planning to send this one to my brother and sister-in-law in Alaska with my husband as a gift. They should get it in March, Lord willing.

I opted to use the red boards to enclose the scrappy squares and the brown as the sashing.

I did struggle with both the snow and the wind while photographing. After this particular day I “shot” pictures, I decided to wait til the snow melted to take more photos of any more quilts.

I spiced up the cornerstones with some 9 patches with cream in the center to make them stand out but not be typical 9 patches with the dark or bright corners. All in all, the effect is exactly what I was going for. I had wanted to brighten up the effect a bit. I think it worked. I like how they look like little flowers.

It is a scrap quilt, but I hope I sort of coordinated the scraps with the sashing and border. They live in the wilderness in Alaska, so I hope it sort of fits. Well, wilderness might be extreme - as they do have a road - with neighbors. It is more or less isolated, however.

The pattern is already on the website here with the original version. I did not update it for this one.

All I did to this one was adjust the size of the sashing and put the 9 patch cornerstones in (3” finished). I also did not add the leftovers along the top and bottom as I did in the original. But you get the idea. The center block is the same.

You can certainly do this as well.

Here’s another look.

And the quilt roll!

Here’s hoping Mark and Cindy will like their new quilt! :)

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!
