Quilted Twins

"Florida Easel"

You all know that this past year I’ve been heavily influenced by Lori Holt - making all those house quilts and learning to make what are called picture blocks. At least those of you who have been reading here along with me this past year know that. If you are new here, that may be information to you. Let me show you a few of what I’ve done.

When we received our new Florida fabrics for the All Florida Shop Hop, I thought that this panel was simply too difficult to cut up well. I tried. Oh yes, I did. Over and over. In fact, I even entered one of these pattern ideas into the magazine, but it wasn’t accepted.

I also entered this one, and it wasn’t accepted either. I was actually secretly relieved, because I didn’t mind at all that we were going to have this pattern under our own control. You see, when you enter a quilt into the magazine and they accept it, you lose the copyright rights for a year. In other words, you give them up to them. You can’t sell your pattern, etc.

So, we were free to share this one with anyone we wanted, as it is ours.

When I saw the panel, I immediately thought of one of those big frames of mats that you stick photos into. They were a big deal when I was a teenager/young adult - something like this picture on the left.

And so we present to you

Florida Easel

We thought of the panel as a work of art all by itself, so I put a mat on it (the turquoise) and then the border fabric which is like a big outer mat, and the outer turquoise border to edge the frame as it sits on the easel.

We used a turquoise fabric as the backing which you can see a bit of it here as the wind is flipping it a bit. We quilted it with flamingos - that is, Jeff and Diane Hissong of Lakeland quilted it. Diane also bound it for me.

The close ups!

Another close up!

I hope you like it as much as we do!

You can preorder it here! The kit is only $72! We can not ship until March 1, but you can order now and we can prepare it so that it will be ready to ship when it’s time to ship.

Thank you so much for coming along with us on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
