I have had the pieces to this top mostly done for a week or more by now. However, because it was hot, I wasn’t able to get the pressing done I wanted. At least I didn’t feel like it.

I now have set up my ironing board outside if I want to iron in the afternoons on hot days.

However, the weather has been delightful the last couple of days and I have been able to press without any issues at all.

So I put this top together.

This is a top that came from the book Quilty Fun by Lori Holt.

The main quilt on the cover of the book is a combination of a lot of different blocks. I do want to make that one as well and have been putting blocks into a plastic zipper bag waiting for me to finish up enough of them to make this top.

Let me show you the cover of the book.

These various blocks make up a kind of sampler row quilt. I do like it just fine, but this one takes those house blocks which are under the words “Lesson in Scrappy Patchwork by Lori Holt” and makes them the feature of the top. And I really do like it.

While making the houses for this top, I also made the ones for the main one on the cover of the book. I also made the stars which are both on this top and just above the houses on the Quilty Fun cover.

I’m also working on the apple blocks - both for this Quilty Fun quilt but also for an Apple-icious quilt that is found in the center of the book.

This is now the next in my house quilts. Let me share with you those in the order in which I’ve made them.

One of the next ones I want to try is called Cityscape by Windham . It looks like this and is a free pattern found here. I’ve wanted to do this one for years as I’ve printed it out multiple times. It’s time.

It should go together relatively quickly compared to some of the things I’ve been doing. It’s 60”x70” so you can see that compared to a quilt made of small blocks, it “should be” a breeze. I do believe those black windows are appliqued on - which is slower to me than piecing.

I’ll admit to being more intimidated by this previous to this year than by one made of a lot of small blocks. Seems it is a good thing to expand my comfort zone! And it’s about time. I hate to be cornered into only one type of quilt!

I’m also working on the ones called Scrap Happy. The blocks are almost all made and I’m working on the sashing and conerstones now!
