Cultural: Price Check!

It's been a while since I talked about prices of common items here in Poland.

Let me show you what  I got this morning at Lidl (Tuesday, November 14, 2017)

Lidl is similar to Aldi or Save-A-Lot in the states. No frills. Pay for your own bags, etc. This is not a full service store like Kroger or Publix. We have those types of stores but I don't often go there.

They do have extra special promotions such as give-aways from time to time--in large, I believe, because of such heavy competition with a store called Biedronka, a Portugese owned store which has vowed to target Poland with discount stores.

We were out of bird seed, so we decided to head to Lidl, as they were having a special on bird feed, bird feeders, etc.  It’s a pretty cheap source of entertainment, and the birds seem so happy when you put something out for them!

The bird seed at Lidl was too expensive, so we decided to skip buying sunflower seeds there and pick them up at the local bazaar on the way home. So we did that.

But I did pick up a few things at Lidl so you could compare prices if you so desired. I’ll translated them all into USD. If you are living in another country where they don’t use the USD, I’m sorry about that.  If you are curious, you can go to xe.com and figure out the prices in your currency.  www.xe.com is the website I used to get today's exchange rate.

For the next couple of weeks they will be giving little "things" for the kids called Stickeezs. We got 5 of them today.

Kids will save, collect and trade them.

This a close up picture of those packets that are opened. There is a very dirty US penny to the left for size comparison.

After Lidl we went over to the local bazaar and found 5 kilos of sunflower seeds for about $5 and picked up a couple of kilos (4.5 lbs.) of Gloster apples for about 6 zl ($1.66).

I asked this man if I could take his picture. I thought his choice of apples to be amazing. I think I counted 12 different varieties of apples!

I tried to take pics quickly. I had asked the guy if I could take them and he said "yes", so I tried not to linger. We did buy apples from him, though.

And that's the news from our part of the world!  Have a fantastic day!
