This is my year for making up the quilts for people I know and care about.

I gave this simple but fun quilt to my daughter. I had bought a layer cake with Nancy Drew fabric - since I had 3 Nancy Drew lovers in my family - my two daughters and my niece - I just HAD to buy this seriously expensive-to-me fabric..

So far I've made one for my daughter-in-law - a Nebraska Huskers fan quilt -- shown here, my sister in law's peony quilt - she has a farm where she raises them, my friend in Poland who moved, and I gave my daughter a Nancy Drew quilt I made a couple of years ago (April, 2015).

Now I'm working on a friend's quilt - one who is in ministry here in Poland.

She wanted colorful - since Poland can be dreary in the winter - sometimes you hardly see the sun for days on end.

She also wanted clear colors like red, blue, orange, yellow. (I thought of the American Jane lines of fabrics). She is also traditional - not "modern" in her taste.

AND her husband is tall. They have a California King bed.

So, this is what I came up with!

I've almost over committed myself on this one. Do you remember that commercial from days gone by that had the phrase, "I can't believe I ate the whole thing!" ? That's kind of how I feel about this quilt.

I'm a little (should read "a lot") intimidated by the quilting on this one. It's about 110"x125" or so as a top! Definitely long enough for a pillow tuck.

It will shrink some with quilting and washing though.

No, the pattern isn't done. But I'm calling it "Stars A Lot" since there are lot of stars in this pattern. I'll plan on having the pattern done by the time I show the final quilt.

The background fabric is made up of mini Russian stacking dolls or "matryoszka dolls".

Since we are here in Poland, I used up some of my precious Russian doll fabrics in this - figuring it is appropriate for this couple. We can buy the Russian dolls here - at tourist areas. While the dolls aren't Polish, they ARE from this part of the world. They do make Polish stacking dolls, but they are much simpler in appearance than the Russian ones.

I won't be able to get a proper picture of this until it is done and I can take it outside. There really isn't enough room on the living room floor for this without removing some furniture!

My friend liked the red and blue chains across the quilt top. It's almost as if it were a US patriotic quilt - and she liked that idea. Her husband spent some time in the military before they married.

All I can say is, "It's colorful!" I feel a little like I've been working on a Kaffe Fassett quilt - but none of these fabrics are from that designer.
