Cultural: Road trip, part 2

I wrote about our quick road trip yesterday and showed some pictures of the countryside here in Poland.

Sometimes when you live in a place, you forget that it is special because it just "is" - It's all around you, and not particularly exciting.

However, another person, who has other sights and sounds around them, may find YOUR sights and sounds interesting.

Here's the rest of the road trip. (The trip was about 650 miles long or 1000 km.)

So you wanted to see the machine my husband wanted to see? Here is it!  To most of you, it is unexciting, right?  It's an old milling machine. And this milling machine has nothing to do with cotton mills - it has to do with metal work.  However, it was from the 60's and not the 80's like he had thought and was a bit different from the advertisement as he had understood it. They were playing with it, seeing how it worked.

These people import these machines from Switzerland and resell them in Poland.   

Going back towards the freeway, we had to go back over the one lane bridge. This time I tried to get the water. I think this was the Warta River.

I found these bridges interesting.

We were now on our way back to the place where my sewing machine was. I had forgotten to go inside the store part and look around - and get some pictures.  Mike offered to take me back by there and go in and get pics and pick up another rotary cutting mat.

The freeway where we spent most of the day was a toll road.  It seemed expensive to use. We had to stop two times and pay about $5 each time and once for $3 and once for $7 - each way - so double that. Total spent on tolls for the day $40.

At least they had plenty of places so we didn't have to stop for long each time.

Maybe it's just been a long time since I've been back to the states on teh freeway to anyplace interesting, but I found this construction interesting.

We got off the freeway here coming into Poznan - traffic jam - good time to get off. 

The direction we were headed was plugged. Glad we got off.

Another overpass. I found them picturesque.

This bridge is rainbow colored. It is quite pretty.

At various places along the freeway, they have these panels that keep the sound and view from the surrounding areas. They made them colorful and patterned. I thought of quilting.

Just to show you the designers of the freeway had a sense of variety. Sometimes these sound barriers were green, sometimes yellow, sometimes cream colored.

We don't have any Burger Kings very close to us, so I've not been to one in a long time - well, I went once in Feb in downtown Warsaw, but other than that, I can't really remember when I last to BK in Poland. We had seen it going and decided to wait to eat again until we found it. We ate again about 6:40 pm here.

Looks pretty similar to the ones in the states, doesn't it?

Inside.

Drink machine. The cup is a tiny bit bigger than your water cup in the states. I think it holds about 300 gram or just over a cup of liquid.

Haven't had onion rings in ...can't remember when. 

In Polish they pronounce "WiFI" as "VeeFee", so this is pronounced "VeeFee za free".  It's kind of a tongue twister. And no, "free" isn't a Polish word!

I turned to get into the Maverick after eating and there was a place you could sleep. Absolutely no atmosphere, but apparently rooms to rent where you could sleep.  79 zl per person (about $20).

They named this freeway - Wolnosci - or freedom. It also has another name "A2".

So we arrived home about 9 pm, quite tired. I still can't figure out why travelling all day makes a person tired - when you aren't the one who drove. (I didn't drive one bit!)

We were pleased and thankful that we had accomplished our two purposes - checking out that milling machine and taking my sewing machine to the repair shop.  More on that aspect next week!
