Cultural - School's Out!

The last day of school for elementary, jr. high and high preschoolers was this week.

They all pretty much follow the same school year plan - they start on September 1, unless that falls on the weekend, of course, and finish on the fourth Friday of June.  Both of these days are school assemblies.

The kids dress in what they call "galowy" - or school dress-up.  I remember when we were first in Poland and they told the kids to dress this way - I had no idea what they meant. Everyone else seemed to already know what colors that meant and what styles.  It's one of those things you don't just "automatically know" unless you live here and grow up in the system.

Their special clothing means navy blue bottoms/dresses and white shirts/blouses. Also white dresses are fine.

I think a few pictures will show it best. I had to get out to do a few things right about the time this last assembly was letting out today - so I saw kids dressed like this all over our town and the next town over. They were walking home, usually holding some sort of certificate or diploma of some sort.

Now summer officially starts for the kids in Poland!

For those of you who have had summer vacation since early May or at a minimum early June, you think, "Wow? So late?" Yes, but now they have a FULL 2 months+ off - completely from school. July and August are completely free to play in the river, play soccer, watch tv, go to camp, etc.

And that's all folks!  Have a fantastic day, wherever this finds you! Hope you learned something today, even if it is a tiny bit of information!
