So what's it like going "home"?

First things first.

I've not actually lived in Florida for more than brief periods of time since we left for Poland in 1994.

I graduated from high school here in FL, but then went to college in SC. Then I bounced around between FL, AK, and SC before moving to Poland.

Since leaving for Poland in October, 1994, we have only been based back here in FL for 12 months in 1998/1999-- but even then we traveled for months at a time.

So, while technically "home", as in a legal US based permanent address, practically speaking, it's not. Home is in Poland.

Ok, now that that is out of the way.  How is it?

H-O-T!

This is a common site as people pick up in their yards.

It seems like every time I've been back to the states and FL lately it's been during the hot months. I can't remember being back here in FL when I wasn't sticky and sweaty.  I know that when you live in a place for a period of time you get used to it.  I'm not used to FL anymore. Not at all.

These cedars used to be thick. Many of them broke out the tops so now they aren't quite the screen that they used to be.

But I'm not here for the weather. (I'm actually looking forward to being cool again and needing my wool slippers.)

Mom said this could just become a small animal habitat. This is a tree that has fallen sideways in her front pasture. It's along the edge, though, so could really become a small animal habitat.

I wanted to check up on my mom and sis and see how things were going down here!

My brother and brother-in-law have spent quite a while picking up at my mom's place already. In fact, I believe they have spent quite a while dragging limbs and debris from the wind of Irma to the disposal sites.

Mom is tackling the finish clean up weekly as her dumpster is emptied weekly. She uses the back of her van to put the branches in and then takes them to it. I helped her with that today. Until her dumpster is emptied, there is no point in her taking more.

This tree fell away from the neighbor's house.  So thankful!

Most people are putting things on the side of the road, but I think that is a little scary for mom (mom is 85) as people move pretty fast on our road. So she will probably just continue to do cleanup with a load a week until it is cleaned up completely.

So, I spent a brief period of time this morning helping mom do some "chores".  Not too long, though. At 85 she's doing well, but it's not as easy as it once was and she does things in short bursts.  I'm not complaining. This heat and humidity is definitely not what I'm used to anymore!

And that's the latest from me, Becky, visiting in central Florida!

But be sure to check out what's in the new fabrics so you don't miss out on the deals!
