Crumbs/strings update
This past weekend I worked on my newest strings top - making some strings blocks and the second block as well.
So what exactly did I do?
I made 12 strings blocks like this: I used a foundation piece of fabric that is cut about 10" square and I sewed the strings to the foundation at a diagonal.
From those 12 string blocks, I placed a square 9" or 9.5" gray block on top of this string block after pressing a line down the middle and sewing 1/4" on each side of that pressed line. Then I trimmed it down to 8.5" square.
I'll show pics next weekend.
This makes 24 HST blocks - with half of the block strings and half gray.
and 24 of the second block
Then I put together 4 more rows so that I have a total of 8 rows done.
Somehow I was thinking if I made 4 more rows next week and 4 more the next week, I'd be done, but as I was looking at it to get a picture, I thought, "That'll be very big!"
Then I realized I only need 5 more rows to finish it - not 8! So, we'll see if I have time to do some extra work on those blocks this week. I may not as another project just came with with priority over this. We'll see how that one goes.
I have my strings/crumbs out since I'm actively using a lot of them right now. I think I could sew for 10 years on them and not use them up! OK, that's an exaggeration, but I do think that I could sew with only strings and crumbs for one year solid and not run out!
If you are new to the website or blog or even if you aren't, you may not realize that I've made a page with all of these quilts on one page. I'll be updating those pictures and patterns as I can. So, if you want to keep up with the very latest, just check here.
I'm very pleased with this top. This is the layout - in case you want to make one. Blocks are 8.5" before being sewn into the top.
As I get close to finishing up this top, I start thinking beyond it to the next strings top I want to do.
That's going to be this chevron/zigzag one!
The summer is rapidly coming to a close.
Here in Poland school starts again the first of September, but until then people are in serious "vacation" mode.
Construction of some very important things around us are going full speed including a section of the ring road/freeway/autobahn around Warsaw that will literally change our relation with the rest of Warsaw, a McDonalds that is going to be about 1 mile from our house, and a new bridge and road that should alleviate a lot of traffic in our area!
So we've got lots of exciting things going on in our area even if they mean in the meantime things are difficult with detours and construction zones.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
