Prep for the "Big Give-away"

At last…we’re going to have a give-away!

When?

Tomorrow, Saturday, January 12!

Where?

At our church building.

It is also where I store the charity quilts once they are finished.

I’ve made up some coupons that I put in the office of the social services - where people go to see about help.

This is the place at the social services building where I put them. Hopefully people who can use them picked them up. I put about 90 coupons here on Monday -- by Thursday about noon they were all gone. I left about 30 more. That makes 120 quilts. I …

I had about 160 quilts, but I gave 6 away quite a while ago now, so that leaves me about 154, I think. I’ll round down to 150 since it is always better to have too many than not enough.

I made up almost 100 coupons. I figure that some people who come to get them will need more than they have coupons for. We’ll see.

Today we went to the building and set them all up in the building on chairs and such. When people come, they will be able to choose what they like

My biggest worry is that I have a lot of children’s quilts this time and not a whole, whole lot of adult quilts. We’ll see how it goes. I am hoping people with small children come.

In the past I was able to get the social workers to help give out the coupons, but this time, due to some changes in the law, they said they couldn’t help me pass them out but I could place the coupons in their office building and people who have needs will see them, pick them up and bring them on Saturday. (I talked with them on Monday - a few days ago).

So we’ll see.

Anyway, here are a few pictures of our activities of the day.

We started by splitting up the work - Claire started putting quilts on the chairs. I brought more chairs out and put them out while Tim and my husband, Mike, brought quilts down from the place where they had been kept.

We started out by cleaning up a bit and then just started putting quilts on the chairs.

One quilt per chair.

We put the children’s quilts in the main room and the darker ones - more for adults in the back room.

I have more children’s than anything, but all together we have over 150.

We’ll refill the chairs as we give them away.

Giving people a choice among 50-60 different ones is enough. More than that and it would take people too long to decide!

Here’s a video that will let you see the whole layout - the extra quilts are in the kitchen - and Claire will “refill” the chairs as they are emptied.

This is about all the prep for Saturday. I will make up a couple of signs as I have the larger quilts in one spot and I’d like people to know that without having to tell every single person who comes through.

We also have some hats that someone has donated that I’d like to give away - and some baby quilts!

So, now you know! If you have donated quilt tops within the last couple of years, it is very likely your top, finished is here!

I did find a couple more that I’ve got to quilt this year - as I do have another goal of finishing up 120 more charity quilts this year. But before I have any motivation for making more, I need to give most of what I already had away!

Here is the whole pile of quilts we hope to give most of away!

And that’s what I’ve been up to today!

Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
