Alaskan Show-Off, Day 2
Happy Valentine’s Day!!!
Yesterday I did all the strip piecing.
Today, after I made the small 9 patches and did a lot of pressing, I put the top together.
This quilt takes 49 9.5” squares. A week or so ago, I got out all my Alaska themed fabrics - either specifically purchased from Alaska or animals commonly found up there like moose, caribou, bears, etc. and fussy cut squares.
I have a nice collection of these fabrics and haven’t been using them. I have them primarily for gift quilts - or personal - not for charity quilting. These were, in fact, some of the first (nice) fabrics I actually purchased after I discovered quilting and have been collecting for some time.
Also, my husband found out that they do have a queen sized bed for sure. So, we’re fine.
I still need to cut all the piano keys for the border and put the border on. Then I need to get the backing prepared, and sandwich it. I’d like to do all of that tomorrow and possibly start quilting. That depends on how late in the day it is. I’m not sure I’ll get too excited about starting to quilt late in the day, though I could wind the bobbins I would need and get everything ready to start the next day.
I’m thinking of making a couple of throw pillows and 2 pillowcases to go with it. I’m kind of in love with this one. The pictures on the fabrics show up really well with the sashing—the contrast is really nice.
Stay tuned for more.
My husband is leaving on Feb. 20 - my goal is to get this completely done this week.
And that’s what I’ve been up to in my sewing room!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
