I Love That Pack, but I have NO IDEA what to do with it!
“I love that pack. I have absolutely no idea what I’m going to do with it, but I love it.”
We hear these words daily when our store is open. In fact, after a very brief and unscientific survey, every fourth person who leaves our store with a purchase is taking one of our beautiful fabric packs with him or her.
If you’ve wondered who puts the packs together, well, I must confess, that for the most part, it is I.
Sometimes I have a friend or relative stop in and help me. Sometimes I get advice, but generally speaking, I work alone, and I prefer it that way. Have you ever noticed how much harder it is for a committee to get something done than if just one person is doing it? Well, it generally takes 2 to 5x longer for a group to do something than one person.
One day in the store, we had a group of 4 ladies picking out border and backing for a “community” project quilt. Though they never came to blows, and I must admit that they were VERY wonderful about it, it did take them over 2 hours to decide upon a border and backing, once it was determined that I did not have any more white background with colored confetti dots left. Had it been one person, then she would have been done in no more than 30 minutes, possibly as quickly as 5 or 10. I’ve seen single shoppers comes in, walk to the backing area, hold up their top and within about 3 minutes come over and plop their huge bolt of backing on the table and ask for 3 yards! Well, most of the time, the more people you add to a mix, the longer any decisions will take! So, I do the packs as ‘alone” as I can.
So, where do you get ideas? I thought I’d share some of the fabulous ideas that ladies have done lately with our beautiful and fun packs!
Some people look on Pinterest. Some people check the quilting groups. I think that lots of you flip through your own books or look at what you’ve already done and think of how to change it up.
