Charity Quilt Week 1 - Day 6

A sample of some cutting.

A sample of some cutting.

Today was a bit quieter. I didn’t get that much finished - but I did a few things! I also got in only about 7 hours of sewing and cutting.

I did these things:

  • Cut out some more floral squares to make progress on my floral squares quilt tops

Some of the florals with the shadow part on.

Some of the florals with the shadow part on.

  • Cut out some solids for a top with some solids in the same design as the florals.

  • Sewed a few rounds on a couple of “Round and Round” tops that are pillow panels with cats in the center (they will be hit!).

Otherwise, the same things were happening - cutting pressing, sewing. Repeat.

I’m working on all of these things

  1. Adding borders to Around the World tops that Fran sent me to get them to the right size

  2. Adding borders to some Spiderman panels (maybe up to 10 - I have 28 panels but I don’t know that I want to finish them all this year.)

  3. Making owl strippy quilts (up to 10?)

  4. Making floral shadow quilts

  5. Making shadow quilts out of some solids

  6. Making some round and round quilts using a pillow panels as the center.

My bolt of owl fabric. I bought it on our auction site a few years ago and made up owl quilts til I was sick of them. So I put it away but am ready to tackle some more! The bolt had about 70 meters on it! It’s from a Polish manufacturer.

I am alternating what I am doing so that I don’t go mad. I am also gaining a new appreciation for people who work in sweat shops! :)

This is a different type of sewing than I am used to - even though I am not sure why. Maybe it is because I am trying to get a lot done - and normally I don’t - I just work on what I want to and while I do end up working hard, I don’t think about it.

The plan for the shadow quilts using solids is like this.

My “solids” shelves are still very, very full of all sorts of various ones. I can use up quite a few with this type of layout. These blocks are 11” square - that square is 9.5” cut and the black is cut 2.5” wide and the corner cut out is a gray square 2.5” - just in case you anyone is interested.

At the moment I have several projects going on at once and I’m feeling like I need to get several of them done ASAP so I can feel a bit calmer. I think the mess is getting to me, but I know it will sort itself out after about 20 more tops are finished.

LOL

I did manage to finish up 5 more tops - these are all small ones

This brings my current count up to 34 small and 10 large ones, if I remember right. My stack is getting so big it is in danger of falling over. I need to get a new place to put them for pictures.

I moved the tops to the couch so I could keep track better.

Check back in tomorrow for more! Time is flying by! Of course this isn’t the type of thing that at the end of 14 days a timer is going to ring and everything will disappear. It’s just a personal challenge to myself. Like setting a timer and seeing how much you can declutter, or clean up, or whatever in that amount of time.

Check back tomorrow to find out more!

Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
