"Stringles"

I finished up this top I made over a period of several weekends using half square triangle blocks made of a strings block and white fabric. Just by looking at it you can tell it is part of the strings/crumbs series of quilts I’ve been making now since about April, 2017.

Since it is made up of ONLY strings blocks and white or half square triangles on point, it is a super easy quilt to make. I enjoy making these super simple ones for strings since string quilts tend to be a bit busy looking - by virtue of their nature of using strings.

this one measures about 96” square, or rather, did before I quilted and washed it. I used fabric as a backing for the strings blocks so this is one heavy quilt! I didn’t really realize how heavy it would be as I searched among my stash for any flimsy, light weight fabric to use as the backing. Doesn’t matter. It’s still quite heavy.

I have this really cool variegated thread that I bought - a spool of about 5000 meters of nice quality - a bit too thick for piecing, but great for free motion or straight line quilting, which I was able to buy for under $10! I thought it was a stea…

I have this really cool variegated thread that I bought - a spool of about 5000 meters of nice quality - a bit too thick for piecing, but great for free motion or straight line quilting, which I was able to buy for under $10! I thought it was a steal, especially when I see how much it is at places in the USA. I was so convinced it was a great deal that I bought both spools they had at my local wholesale shop. I had used very little of it, however, until lately. I figured this was the perfect quilt top for it!

It’s really a super simple quilt. Not too complicated or tricky. The part that made this one hard for me is that I used fabric behind my strings and that made my blocks thick and bulky. From now on I’ll either use nothing behind them or interfacing. I don’t want to use paper as I don’t want to tear it off! :)

The backing is pieced. I had that pretty huge floral print - not enough to do anything with such as make a whole quilt, but too pretty to just leave on my shelf, so I decided to make it the heart and soul of the back. I added to it to make it big enough. Even though it is off centered, a person could use this back as the front if they wanted a change. We would just call it an asymmetrical quilt!

This is where I’m doing the FMQ on it. It seems extra puffy- not entirely sure why - but it just is. Maybe the thread is a bit thicker than I normally use so it makes it where the thread goes into the fabric more defined? Not sure.

I did put the new picture and pattern on the free patterns page and the strings/crumbs page. Such as it is. There really isn’t much to how to make this one!

And the name…”Stringles”…well, WHY not? If they can have Etsy, and Craftsy, and Scrapalicious and I have Stringalicious and use “Made” as a title instead of a verb and on and on it goes, then I can combine strings and triangles and get “stringles”!

And this is just one of the things I’ve been up to lately!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
