Strings/crumbs update

Those rolls of strips sewn to paper tape - remember them?

They’ve been sitting in my sewing room staring at me!

I was walking by another shelf when I saw this black and white piping I bought at our local wholesale shop simply because I liked it! Yep. That’s the only reason I bought it. I thought it could be nice to use. The problem is, I had used very little of it. (And that makes me feel bad.)

I decided that now was the time to change that.

So I debated the best way to combine the piping with that roll of scraps sewn to the paper tape. I knew I wanted to use the wider tape as I have a different idea for the skinnier tape.

I saw that the tape actually had quite a bit of light colored pieces sewn to it, but I really wanted to use that piping with it anyway. I thought that the piping sitting right next to the strips wouldn’t look that great to me. My eyes need a bit more of a break. So I immediately thought of adding either a white or black strip to each side of the strip of scraps.

I finally chose white - I used a 1” cut white strip to each side of the wide paper adding machine tape after I cut the pieces into 96” lengths. (I chose that number simply because we have a dining room tape that is that long so I can use it to easily measure the length of the tape.)

Here’s a short series of pictures to show how I attached this piping to the white.

My idea is to go from the darkest gray in the middle to the lightest as I work outward. However, I ran out of scraps sewn to tape - need to take some time to sew some more. Until I do, I won’t be able to add to this top. I’ll do that as I feel like doing some mindless sewing. It might be a while. But don’t forget about this project - even if it goes to the back burner for a few weeks!

This is all I’ve gotten done - it is about 40” wide and 96” long. I’ve been cutting things to the right length and pin and fit each piece - the white and the grays. I just sewed the piping on without measuring it first.
