On the home front - floor update

My husband is wiping down the floor before he varnishes the first time. He had sanded extensively - had the shop vac connected to the sander, so most of the sawdust was collected as he went along.

My husband finished the floor on Saturday! Yep. Saturday. I couldn’t walk on it til Sunday (yesterday).

We’re not ready to put the furniture back yet, though, because as my husband said, “Since the furniture is all out and things in the middle of the room, we might as well paint the walls.” (It’s been 20+ years).

This is the vantage point from which I take a lot of the tops after I finish them but before I quilt them.

So…we’ve got another job in front of us this week. I’m hoping painting can be done in a day or two, though. My house has been in chaos since I got back from the states in late May due to these floors. I’m not complaining though - it is well worth it.

My husband isn’t really happy with the dark on the floors, but the floors had so much dirt embedded in the wood that he couldn’t get it 100% clean looking. Well, maybe next time. LOL. I’m so thankful for how much better it looks. to me, it is wonderful!

I had to help clear out the whole area and move things. I am at the point where it is hard to get to my fabric as things are piled in front of those doors (I’m not showing you that area!). Hopefully this week we’ll get it straightened out - after the painting - but because it is going to involve “going though” things as I put them back, it will be a lot more work than just “replacing them”. I’m hoping to decide whether or not each item is a wanted one.

Actually as I’ve grown older, most of the things I don’t want anymore - just my quilting stuff/books and some other specific items. :) Of course, having the kids get older helps - school things and other such things can be removed/donated.

I am sewing, but there have been whole days when I’ve not been “allowed” (I was asked not to) down there (well, hours at a time) lest I shed lint and tiny fabric pieces on the newly varnished floor - and thus have it embedded in it ‘forever’. Don’t feel bad for me - I’ve been able be in my sewing room AND my computer - and NOT able to be in the kitchen.

So….we’ve been going to out for dinner most days this past week! Not a bad trade, IMO.

The cats have been banned to the outside during these days of wet varnish as well - so they’ve been not really thrilled. They really like being with me.

Anyway…i trust you have a great day wherever you are!
