"Autumn Impressions" top finished
This is the third “autumn” quilt top I’ve made this fall. I had hopes of making 3 or 4. I’ve finished three, but now I’m hoping for 4.
I have the next idea and it’s all printed out - just have to execute it!
Anyway…here is number three!
I had made too many courthouse steps block for the last one because I changed my mind about the layout while making the blocks. Thus, I knew I would use these.
I added the other blocks and this is what it looks like up close.
I did something with this quilt top that I’ve rarely done. In fact, so rare, I’m not positive I’ve done it before, though something niggling in the back of my brain says I have.
I changed the border. I had laid it out just like the one I showed you, but when it came time to actually make it, I used a dark army green. Ugh. I disliked it from the get-go, but thought maybe I would get used to it and it would be okay.
Didn’t happen.
It was too big. Too much darkness.
Too important to leave like that. The army green just made the quilt “sad” instead of “alive”. I don’t think even feathers could rescue THAT army green border.
I did write up the pattern. It’s here.
With this kind of pattern, I love it how the “magic” happens when you put these blocks together and the design forms. It is simply fun!
This time I first made the rows: They look like this. Even that was exciting - to see the pattern emerge as I sewed these blocks together in rows. (Maybe I just need to get out more!)
Then I laid it out on the floor. I kind of have part of the floor taken up with sandwiched charity quilts, so I figured putting the blocks together partially at the beginning would help with the space issue.
I am not sure why I like it so much. But I do. It’s that simple. We like what we like and often we really don’t even know why!
Here are a couple of pictures “in the process of being made” - so you can see the colors “up close and personal”!
One thing I thought interesting is how close this quilt top looks to the EQ drawings I made. Electric Quilt is a program that I really do love and use. I love how, even if I don’t put in the exact same fabrics, I can usually get the look I am going for!
In case you don’t remember the other 2 tops from this fall, they were Bear Paws Deluxe and Autumn Majesty - they look like this: They are also all made from upcycled materials.
And you be sure to have a great day wherever you are reading this!
That’s it for today!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
Colors may vary slightly from what is portrayed. Screens vary as well as our eyes sometimes see things differently, but we've made every attempt to have the color be accurately portrayed.
