2019 Charity quilts 21-30

March’s quilts are now done!

I worked hard to get the next 10 finished. With these 10, I have only 90 left to go!

Yeah! Sounds impossible, doesn’t it? Well, one at a time…I’m marching forward.

If I hurry, I can get them all done before the end of the year! LOL.

Actually, I kind of do have system worked out by now. I am quilting 10, finishing up 10 as in binding and labeling and then washing the ones I bind and photographing them.

Then I am sandwiching as I get time, with a little ahead. So far I have a couple of piles of quilts that are sandwiched and ready to quilt as of this writing - for next week, so when I’m in the mood to do them, i can quilt without needing to stop and sandwich first. Since it really only takes about 15 min. to sandwich a quilt, I can do that when I have a few minutes - for example, when I’m cooking something but don’t have to stand over the oven since it’s my dining room table where I sandwich.

After washing the first quilt with 10” squares, I see that I need to quilt these big squares more often. Things aren’t looking too good - so I need to go back and add more quilting to these squares.

The pile next to it are a few quilts “ready to quilt” - they are sandwiched and ready to go.

The first week I tackled these, I did it all in that one week - sandwiched, quilted and bound the same 10 - but now I’m kind of working in bunches, but getting a little ‘extra’ done in between. This way when I go to bind, I can look around for at least two that need the same color of binding and do them at the same time. Each of those little things help save me time.

I’m feeling okay with what I’ve been able to get done so far.

So, things are starting to kind of level out - at first I was a bit worried that I might not be able to make my goal - and even now I may not be able to but I am going to give it my best shot to try and finish up these 120 quilts this year - 10 a week. Now 2 more weeks done - only 9 left to go — I had 10 quilts done when I started - so I am now officially 1/4 finished with this year’s goal!

Taking pictures the other day was a hoot, though. The wind was making it difficult!

Someone asked me what spray I use as when I sandwich the quilts I use both spray and pins. It really helps - especially with this batting I got from the Big Fabric Haul - that is really slippery batting. I can’t even think of FMQ it - because I can feel it slipping around in there - so it is making it interesting. As I write up this post, I have now used up 2 of those bolts of batting - only one left. I’m heading out to the church building in a few minutes and hope to get the last roll today and bring it on home to begin to use it as I have time.

I am able to get this spray locally from my findings wholesale shop where I get the batting.

This brand is a temporary adhesive spray - I guess local companies (here in the area) use it to hold embroidered logos on in place before they stitch them on.
