I lied. I'm sorry. More Pumpkins!

I really didn’t know I’d have this many more pumpkins or I’d never have said that I wasn’t going to show anymore for this year!

Yes. Back in September we picked our pumpkins. I told my husband I wanted to wait til after a frost before I would get all the decorative gourds that I could find.

Well, he’s out of town for the week but I had told him that I wanted to get all the gourds up this year and not plow them in since plowing them in just replants them.

So, I went to get them on Friday - yesterday- if you are reading this on Saturday (he gets back on today, Saturday, and it was kind of my goal to get them all up from the garden before he comes back).

He’s off teaching in the Ukraine. I know, I’ve not mentioned it. I kind of hate to spread it all over the internet when my husband is gone or when we are away from home.

Anyway…I started walking around and now that all the pumpkin vines were hit with a frost a couple of weeks ago, it was easy to see everything. EVERYTHING. I found a bunch more pumpkins. Unbelievable!

Yes, I did.

I also found lots of gourd type things and I’ll get the rest soon so that next year maybe I’ll have fewer such plants.

Anyway, I found 11 more pumpkins of various sizes and shapes.

This makes my total pumpkins picked to be 90. We did have to throw one out as it went soft before it ripened. That makes 89! I’m simply amazed!

When we picked them all in September, I put a lot of the green ones on the back patio area to hopefully ripen. I’ve been taking pictures of them every day (missed one day so far) since October 1. It has been unseasonably warm (19-21C - low 70sF) in the last week so the ripening has finally seemed to start in earnest.

October 1 - you can see how green they are!

October 18 - you should be able to see the difference at last. I had almost given up hope of ripening! There are a few “holes” in the placement of the pumpkins as a friend took a few from the collection. But otherwise, I’ve not touched the location…

There are a few “holes” in the placement of the pumpkins as a friend took a few from the collection. But otherwise, I’ve not touched the location of any of these pumpkins all month.

Here is a lot of my haul that I’ve not given away yet. I do have some by the entrance to the house - but this is where the green ones are! I’m so tickled.

This pumpkin harvest has been beyond my imagination! When they are ripe, I hope to give them away. Maybe I’ll keep one or two (or three) but I still have dehydrated pumpkin from last year, so I’m fine on pumpkin!

And now you know!

I know - this is totally and completely unrelated to quilting - except that it keeps me in the mood to make my fall colored tops that I want to make!

Anyway…

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!

Our colors aren’t really vibrant this year due to the fact that we haven’t had much of a cold snap yet. Taken from our balcony outside our bedroom on October 18, 2019.
