Loose Change
As much as you might think that I get a lot of fabric from my sis - well, I do. I would get more, however, if I lived closer. If I lived closer, I could walk into the store and pretty much take what I wanted. I mean, I am officially “half owner” of the Quilted Twins shop even though my sis basically runs it alone. She bears the brunt of the decisions and finances. I just stay over in Poland and create! :)
So the downside of it is, if I lived closer, I probably wouldn’t have time to sew. I’d be in the store all the time!
Anyway…
I did get this pack given me - I requested one! It’s been a while ago now, though!
It is Five and Dime by Penny Rose. I decided that, like the Old Guys Rule and The Great Outdoors by Riley Blake, I really wanted to use it up and see what I could make with it.
And so I did.
Here it is:
No doubt many of you have actually used my sis’s collections more often than I have. And I have been feeling a bit bad about that.
Rachael would like for me to come up with a whole collection of patterns using 10 piece half yard packs. Actually I wouldn’t mind. But the major problem we have with all of that is distance.
By the time I get the fabric, come to Poland and create a pattern and make it up, she could easily be sold OUT of any given bundle.
That’s why I’d like to make the patterns “generic” enough so that they would work for whatever bundle or group of fabrics you want.
Here are the two other patterns/quilts ones I’ve done - using her (our) bundles. The patterns are free - but the bundles are ‘gone’ - she has no more of these.
Anyway,,.I wanted this one with a nice light and airy feeling as the fabric was just that kind of fabric. In fact, my attempt at a name as something like Sweetness and Light, but I already have a quilt pattern with that name, so I needed to change it before the pattern was written.
And so I did.
I think I achieved what I was going for. I used that sashing effect which I’ve used before.
Without using a colorful cornerstone, it creates a much more “free and empty” feeling. I’ve tried to put a piece of color in that corner area and just didn’t like it. At least not with these fabrics.
A side angle shot - in a late in the day photo
I’ve been working on the pattern and it is here! It is also on the free patterns page. If you haven’t been over there, it might be interesting for you tor you to take a look at what we have for you there!
And thanks, Donna Weeks, for the name! I appreciate all of you who give suggestions - all the time. I really do.
As usual - the quilt roll:
Here is a close up of those two blocks!
Here you can see that I used all different leftover strips for the binding. If you have never done such a thing, I’d encourage you to break out of your mold and try it.
It is actually quite freeing to make scrappy bindings! (Not always of course - but in the right place it is perfect!)
And that’s all for today from this part of the world!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
Stay safe!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
Price is by the Yard.
