It’s time to pick back up with the mystery quilt.

Get those pieces back out where you left off. This week we will be working with the two darker constants -

For the Blue/Gray quilt:

First -

We are going to make this block:

Find a light gray - a very light gray - could use very light blue if you wanted to - I used gray and a nice bright blue - different from your “constant” blue.

20200401_174828.jpg

Cut a 1.5” strip out of the blue and 2 - 1.5” gray strips. Sew them together as shown below. Cut off 1.5” strips - (you are strip piecing again - like last week).

For each size this is how many you need to cut of the center segments:

  • lap - 9 segments

  • full - 15 segments

  • queen - 20 segments

You also need to cut from the light gray pieces - 1.5”x 3.5”

  • lap - 18 pieces

  • full - 30 pieces

  • queen - 40 pieces

Then using those pieces, make these blocks:

For each size of quilt this is how many of these blocks you will need:

  • lap - 9

  • full - 15

  • queen - 20

This little block finishes at 3.5” square at this point.

Secondly -

Now, let’s make two more small blocks - For these, you will use the “2 dark constants“ (dark gray and royal blue) PLUS a very light gray or very light blue - It will look like this:

Cut strips 1.5” - 2 in the royal blue and 1 light gray:

Do the same with your dark gray strips - cut 2 gray - 1.5” and 1 light gray - 1.5”.

You will make strip sets as shown..

20200401_182014.jpg

Cut off segments in the same manner way as did with the first block show above.

  • lap - 6 of each colorway

  • full - 16 of the blue colorway, 15 of the dark gray

  • queen - 20 of each colorway

Now for each block, cut 2 strips - 1.5”x 3.5” in blue and dark gray. You need the cut this many for your quilt:

  • lap - 12 of each colorway

  • full - 32 of the blue colorway, 30 of the dark gray

  • queen - 40 of each colorway

Sew these together to make these blocks: These will be 3.5” square at this point.

You will need to make this many blocks like this: (of both the gray/light and the royal blue/gray: They will be 3.5” at this point.

  • lap - 6 of each colorway

  • full - 16 of the blue colorway, 15 of the dark gray

When you have finished all these small blocks, pack up the finished pieces carefully and put with your other finished pieces from last week. I’d recommend keep these last two blocks separately in their own little zipper bag - just to not get them confused with the other little blocks you made today.

And that’s it for this week! Here’s a summary sheet in PDF form of what you need to do this week. Click on the photo of the puzzle below to get the pdf!
