"Around the Block"

Edited - I chose “Around the Block” - Thanks!

I finished this one back in June. I even took some nice photos of it back then. I just kept putting off featuring it on the blog because I didn’t have a pattern finished.

I decided that “now” is the time.

This is number 74 in my 2” series of quilts - scrap quilts made featuring some of my many 2” strips and squares.

If you think I’m exaggerating, — I’m not. You can check out the series here. I did start back in 2015, though - so it’s not as if I just now started this series. I’m not setting any records for quilts in this series this calendar year, however!

Here is how the top looked as a top - before quilting.

When I had the top finished and took photos, I was very disappointed with how it worked out as I couldn’t see what I had tried to accomplish, and that was a slightly darker strip down the middle of the big wide white sashing.

But, as I hung it out to take photos of, I was quite pleased - you can not even imagine HOW pleased I was, that FINALLY that subtle difference showed up.

All that time i had been disgusted with myself that I hadn’t gone even one step darker. I wanted subtle, but I just “knew” I had gone “TOO subtle!”

I quilted this one with curls and swirls, as I’ve been doing a lot lately. I’m really trying to master them!

(I do my quilting on my Janome 8900. I know a lot of you realize that. A long arm would be a dream. I’ve even checked into what it would cost to get the Janome long arm that seems to be available here in Poland.)

Now, I am totally delighted with this quilt!

I even used another one of the Polish florals for the backing.

It’s really a very simple quilt. When I was choosing the squares for the center scrappy blocks, however, I did try to choose brights - ones I thought would work well with the side setting triangle Polish folk design fabric I had.

I think I took pictures of this quilt over a period of 2 days and at least 3 different times! I was trying for that perfect photo!

As usual I try to get the quilt roll - here it is!

Long distance shot!

You can see from a distance that I’ve pretty much lost that “darker” middle piece there. I really should have used a bit darker fabric for the inner sashing piece. This process of quilting - I’m always learning. Always!

The pattern will be put up as soon as I have a name. I need to decide today. If you can help with a name, please put the suggestion in the comments. I’d appreciate it!

Have a great day wherever you are reading!

Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
