"Braided Scraps"

Happy New Year!

Ok…now that that’s out of the way, let me get on to my newly finished quilt!

Wow.

This is one of my older unfinished tops that has been on my shelf for a while as I took a detour from finishing these up to focus on those upcycled blues.

It’s been time to go back to these 2” strips and squares quilts and finish up all the ones from before 2019.

With this one done, it leaves just one more “old” one left to quilt from my 2” strips/squares series. That’s better. Problem is, with the new year here, “old” now counts as things done in ‘19. LOL

I wrote about this one way back here. It is number 61 in my series of 2” strips and squares quilts. I really didn’t like it that much - I suppose that’s why I kept putting it off. However, I will freely admit, that I like it much better now that it is quilted! It is a very scrappy braid, and after I made this, I kept seeing other people’s braided quilt tops and they seemed to be ever so much prettier than this one. Of course, most of the other ones are actually well planned, carefully color coordinated. :) This one…not so much.

But I was going for the cool colors in this one - and no, I didn’t cut up any new strips for - just used what was in my bags already.

The quilt roll:

Our winter so far has been “underwhelming”. Not impressed.

The quilting is incredibly difficult to see on it. I guess the color of thread I used, or the type, or both, just renders it almost invisible.

I did a large meandering or stippling. I decided that it is actually HARDER for me to do this now than a nice swirl, curl, especially the smaller swirls/curls. So, I decided to try a bigger meander.

And that’s it. Another one I can check off as “done”.

Maybe some of you can at least use the idea of how I did it to finish up some braided pieces you have that you don’t know what to do with.

It’s growing on me - but this one is definitely “not” one of my favorites - I give it a 6/10 - and no real reason - just don’t really like it.

And that’s all for today! I trust it’s a great day for you!

Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
