"Happy Days"

I was able to get this one done recently. it is number 61 in my 2” strips and squares.

And yes, as a finished quilt, I do like it. I liked it fine as a top - but as a finished quilt, even more!

This is one of those quilt tops that was “lagging” - I had made the top way back in 2017! Can you believe it?

Yes, I did.

I made about 20 tops each in 2015, 2016, and 2017. Then I came to almost a screeching halt and have only finished a total of 81 tops and/or quilts in this series.

I did stop and make a page on our website for the series from start to finish should you care to look. It is divided by year and in order as I made them. When I finish the top I put it there and update the picture as I get them quilted.

Now 81 tops and quilts probably isn’t bad - but I had hoped to keep up the goal of about 20 per year in the series. Obviously I’ve fallen quite short with this goal. But that’s okay. I will get back up and shake it off and move forward. At the time I had no idea I would have a parenthesis of 50 tops from the “upcycled blues” series. If you are new to this blog, you can check out the WHOLE upcycled blues series in order from 1-50 here.

All I did here was have two alternating blocks. An hourglass block and a 25 patch scrappy block. Then I used sashing and cornerstones.

It’s interesting and I like that. At least reasonably so. I give this one about 8.5/10.

The border was more or less an experiment for me - I had never done such a thing before.

I quilted it with swirls and curls in a pretty tight formation.

Our winter is being very mild. It makes it much easier for me to hang quilts out on the line when my hands aren’t freezing. But it also means we don’t have that beautiful either frosty background to the pictures, or a a snowy background. But I can’t do anything about that.

I wrote about making the top way back here should you care to read more.

I’m not entirely sure why this one kept getting pushed back to the bottom of the pile when it came time to quilt my tops. But it did. Shrug. Not sure what to say. It just did.

I decided to piece the backing from various leftover pieces from recent charity quilt finishes. You can see that they are rather large pieces. I was happy that a backing came together so quickly, even though it looks completely disconnected. I’m not worried about it - the quilt is now finished.

The pattern has been in the free patterns section, but it is now updated with a new picture.
It is here should you care to take a look! Or download it.

And that’s all I have for you today!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
