Red and black 9 patch

I guess I need to explain this one.

Several years ago now I was helping a friend here in Poland who needed some money so I got her to make some tops for me. (I first taught her how - she already knew how to sew.)

My idea was that maybe I could sell the the finished quilts.

These were not for charity as I don’t pay people to make quilt tops that I give away.

My friend made this top for me and it has been languishing in my drawers for some time as it was one of those that I kept pushing to the back while I chose a different one to quilt and finish up.

As I get to where I am completing many of the tops I’ve made in the last few years I decided it was time to deal with this one.

So, finish it I did. I hardly feel like it is fair to call it mine - since really all I did was quilt it.

But I did quilt it, bind it, wash it and photograph it, so it is going on my list as one I finished. This was a case where I “pieced by check” - not “quilted by check” which you’ve probably heard.

I didn’t name it - there is no pattern. It’s just 9 patches and red.

The day I took the pictures it was foggy. I almost didn’t even attempt pictures that day, but my husband suggested that maybe it might look kind of cool.

So I did.

I will probably send it with my husband to the Ukraine to give to one of the families there where he teaches. The students and their wives are all poor and are most grateful for everything! These colors are classic colors - people over here love black and red - so I think it will be a hit.

The size? It’s about 70” wide, so a big twin or a small full.

And that’s the story behind this quilt!

Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
