The Twin Thing - KFC!
As you might know, my sis and I are trying to do some twin things from afar.
This particular series involves either going to the store and getting similar items and comparing costs or checking out restaurants that are comparable. She goes somewhere near her home in Dade City, FL, and I’m going somewhere near my home in Jozefow - near Warsaw, Poland.
This time it was KFC.
We decided that we would each buy a meal of “strips”.
Becky’s turn: (Jozefow, Poland)
I went to our local KFC which is a free standing restaurant. The meal cost 17,99 zl which is $4.73 at today’s exchange rate. I’ll say that up front because the receipt is hard to read. My husband was with me so it’s not as if it says, “17,99”. It doesn’t.
What happens is you order, then while you wait for your order, you get your drink from the machine. This is one of the few places that lets you do refills. When it was new, we saw people —multiple people— drinking out of one cup all.the.time. And I’m not talking about giving a child a sip of yours. It’s happening less often now.
However, recently I did see a group of four ladies with a refill cup and there were 4 straws sticking out of their one cup. Yep. It’s still that way here. :(
The cups hold about 1/3 of a liter - or about 12 oz.
Our number was #49. It goes up on a LED board where you can see when yours is ready. The workers also usually call out the number when the food is ready.
Anyway, this is my meal. It was not very busy the day and time we were there, and it took about 10 minutes anyway. In my meal I had 3 strips, a small pack of fries, a container of sweet/sour sauce, a package of ketchup and a drink.
The strips are spicy - I’d rather they weren’t as spicy, but the food was cooked well. We don’t get a tremendous number of fries - but enough. This is just a regular meal. They don’t do the “upsizing” here at KFC. You can do that at McD’s where we usually do just because the drink is no refill at McD’s and you get one drink - exactly 2 cups of liquid (at McDs).
You don’t get any extra sauces or things but nowadays you can ask for extra ketchup. It used to be you got 1 packet of ketchup for one order of fries. If you wanted more, you had pay for it.
All was well. I’m happy enough with the meal - I don’t usually get the strips.
Every time I get the questionnaire - which I got with this meal - and fill it out I ask them to offer more “nonspicy” chicken options.
It seems obvious to me that you should have chicken strips that are just spiced like KFC chicken - not where you are desperately seeking for something wet to drink or eat between bites because they are so hot! !
Maybe that’s just me, but I think not. I’ve talked with several other ladies my age and they don’t enjoy the food there as much because of that. It’s weird that people would go to McD’s for chicken, when KFC should be the place to go. Someone in the higher ups decided a couple of years ago to go “all spicy”. For a country where the food is notoriously bland except for their love of horseradish, I think it’s a bad decision.
Anyway…my experience was good. The food was fresh, the french fries hot, and the drink was fizzy and cold. For not being busy, it was a bit on the slow side, but I suspect it had more to do with what my husband ordered than mine. So I am not complaining about that!
And you can see that we actually did this is December. Sorry about that. I’ve had other things to write about lately!
Rachael’s turn: (Dade City, FL, USA)
Eating at KFC around here is a lot like getting ready in the morning. It’s nothing very exciting, but it’s something that is easy to do, and it gets the job done.
When we decided to eat there, it was around 5:30 in the evening. So, we drove the 2 minutes in there, as it’s the closest ‘fast food’ restaurant to QuiltedTwins that exists. We placed our order at 5:35 p.m. and because it was a Thursday night, I was beat. So, I went to sit down at the table, and let the others with me bring the meals!
A long 5 minutes later they were calling our name from the counter. Five minutes might sound like a short time to you, but for our normally lightning fast KFC, usually the food is ready by the time I’ve gotten my drink cup filled. Yes, it’s that fast. But, they told us that they were short handed by TWO people that night!
We have a “$5 Fill up meal deal” where you can get a 3 piece chicken strip basket meal for $5. That includes 3 strips of chicken breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, a biscuit with honey or jam (and in our case, both honey AND jam), and a cookie to share with someone else, since I’m not a fan of cookies that are individually wrapped and sealed.
My drink cup was 16 oz and I filled it up twice J
I was the big winner that night, as I got FOUR pieces of chicken strips. (We’ve noticed that they do that to us when we go at night, sometimes. I think they just don’t want to toss them out.) They are always delicious, tender, and moist. That night was no exception.
My only complaint is their drink machine does not offer many choices, compared to our Wendy’s and Burger King. Even Taco Bell has more choices than KFC. Additionally, the Diet Coke does seem to keep me awake well past midnight, even though Mt. Dew does NOT. Go figure (But that’s not the restaurant’s fault and I don’t want anyone to think that I blame them.)
So, for $5.35, I got my KFC meal. (We have 7% sales tax here in Dade City.) If I had to rank it, I would rank it a 5 out of 5 for good quality for KFC; 4.9 for speed, as normally they are under 3 minutes, and of course, I’ll go back. Where else can you get something so delicious for so little ?! And of course, the best part.. supper was over with, and I was able to head BACK to the fabric store after a 30 minute break after which I did NOT have to clean up, and prepare more of my signature fabric packages for you all!
