Autumn Majesty!
So it’s done! Yes, I decided to quit looking at it and get busy quilting it. I reminded myself that a finished quilt is better than a top just sitting there. That made me get going on it - as I didn’t want to get stuck with these - I still have two more of last fall’s upcycled quilts which I made in fall colors that I want to finish up before fall 2020 hits. I really like all of them, so I want to do a good job. However, I can psyche myself out with that kind of reasoning, and never get to them - afraid I’m going to ”mess them up”. I think what I’m really afraid is that I’m not going to “do them justice”. I just have to get over that, though. Part of me knows I certainly won’t do them justice, but that’s just the way it is!
This is another one that turned out fantastic, IMO. If I had to give it a score, I’d put it up there about a 9/10. I like everything about it. The only reason I can’t give it a 10 is the quilting. Probably should be down there in the 8/10 range, but I’m being kind to myself. Someday I will get over being afraid of the quilting and really get with it! All you people reading this who take to quilting like a duck to water…just bear with me!
As I watch this, I’ve got the bears on another screen -
I did a pieced backing - once again - all second hand fabric I don’t know what to say about it except that to some of you it is awful - I’ve seen how some people agonize about perfectly matching the front to the back - the colors have to match perfectly! I’ve been in the store when people came in and I told them they probably should ask someone else! :) Then I help them as best as I can! Some of you will think it is fine - it fits with the “theme of the quilt”. And that’s where I am. Probably a quilt show would have a fit…..
I still have some cotton batting and I knew I would like this quilt - and I do tend to actually prefer the look of the quilts with the cotton batting, so I used some of it with this one. It hangs better and straighter with the cotton. Part of that is the weight, I’m sure. It's a much heavier quilt with cotton as opposed to poly. That saying, it took me parts of three days to get this one done. I just wasn’t excited about it as I was doing it. I guess I figured I was ruining it every time I sat down to work on it. Also, it was hot during part of that time and that makes it harder. I will add that it is much easier to work on quilts with cotton batting when it’s hot than with poly. I hate the feel of the poly against me when I’m warm. The cotton feels fine, actually. It’s just heavy!
As usual - the quilt roll!
I did update the pattern with new pictures. It’s here.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this finish! Maybe some of you can use the idea - if not with fall colors, maybe with plain scrappy or else, a single color! Might be fun! (or a two color quilt - someone should try it!)
Oh…and while I’m working on these, I have the bear cam on my left screen - it is so relaxing!
This one is a young bear that isn’t a very good fisherman yet. - but getting better.
Anyway, have a great day wherever you are reading this!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
