Big Fabric Haul - end of month 12 report

The collection of fabric was leftovers from a lady’s home business - and the fabric is mostly in browns and blacks. Almost no other colors are included. I also got a lot of thread with the fabric. I did pay about $400 for all this fabric plus at least that much in thread value plus a couple of smaller rolls of poly batting.

Well, 52 quilt tops later, and “just like that”, I have the first year’s quilt tops done! (LOL)

52 tops from this bunch of fabrics - so far. And it appears that many many more can be in the works! What I mean by that is that there enough browns for at least 60 more tops - so that would make about 110 tops from the brown. And I have more black than I had brown! So, we’ll see! Do you see that navy blue fabric in front. It is a polyester type quilted fabric. I thought at first I might use it in quilts, but I’m having second thoughts. For now it is pushed off to the side and I’ll see if I can find another use for it. I know at least some of it would be great in fidget mats.

I will definitely need to find some more coordinating fabric to go with the blacks as I am kind of short on that in my stash. Of course, with black, you can pretty much use whatever you want to coordinate, right?

But it’s too early to start thinking about black seriously. For now, It’s browns! I do hope to finish up the browns by Dec. 31, though - esp. as I now have a couple of other ladies who said they will help me (elves!) with tops - I just have to make sure I provide the fabric and coordinating fabric! That is very good news to me and means that it is feasible that I might be able to actually finish by Dec. 31 with the browns. That would be so great to me!

But if not, that’s okay. I’ll just solder on and step by step, we’ll get these finished.

I need to replenish my tan/cappuccino fabric because at this point I’m having a hard time coming up with fabric to make that three part sashing that I really like! However, I’ve been putting off buying it, hoping that would force me to take a second or third look at my collection of fabrics and use what I already have.

So here goes!

#49 - This one will appeal to the beige lovers out there! Oh wait…it’s got an orange border. Well, then, beige and orange lovers! Seriously! I didn’t know for sure when my sashing fabric would run out. I guess I was just hoping it would go and go. But it didn’t. It’s kind of bland, but I’ve learned there are lots of Polish older ladies who like bland. Well, maybe bland isn’t the right word for it with that border!

#50 - I like how this one turned out -

#51 - And this one -

#52 And hopefully someone will think this one is quirky and not just “odd”. OK. You can laugh. I am. But I’ve learned by doing these charity quilts that “odd” is okay.

It was a year ago on July 9 that we came home with the fabric. At that time I decided to attempt to make an average of a top a week out of these fabrics for charity. On one hand they are lovely to work with as they are mostly sportswear and have a wonderful “hand” - and they just feel like quality fabrics, but on the other hand, because they are sportswear, they are harder to make a quilt with due to their weight.

I chose instead to cut it all into 10” squares and work from there and only there. I will add, though, that I do have a pile of 8” cut squares that I have. Anything smaller than an 8”square was given away as I cut up the yardage of the browns.

If you are curious what I have done so far with all of these, you can see the record of them here. I’ve been trying to keep this page updated with the tops/quilts I finish from this very special collection of fabrics.

And that’s it. This is my June “Big Fabric Haul” tops. So relieved to have 52 tops all finished!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
