"Label Equalizer" - mine!

So here’s mine! I finished up this one this past week.

It was quite easy in spite of the fact that it is June with some hot days. The fact is, our days are varying between 71 and 81F these days - so I can sneak in some quilting if I can get my act together and do it on the cooler days!

I made this one earlier this year and I tried to use mostly “cooler colors” meaning the greens, blues, purples and grays. It wasn’t a 100% perfect match and that was okay. I gave it to Ewa.

I made it just like I made the other one with more of the cooler colors. This one goes with my brown and green couch.

I really like the simplicity. The labels themselves play the main role in this quilt. It takes 154 labels - so combined with the other one I made - that meant I had over 300 labels there. Then I’ve made another one out of labels as well - and used them in various part of my upcycled blues qullts!

What I did was simply cut 3.5” squares using a template and tried to center the label at least side to side. I couldn’t usually center them up and down!

Then, I felt like I trimmed for days. And maybe I did. I did it all as part of my trimming up scraps efforts for this month. I’m seriously trying to get those all done. I am really getting ever close, but I think I’m finally coming to grips with the fact that I may find a bag of uncut up scraps now and then - for as long as I sew!

Then I cut sashings at 1.5”x 3.5” and then long ones that went across the quilt. I will admit to just sewing them on lengthwise (not measuring), but then I had to pin each intersection when I sewed the next row on. Considering the quilt isn’t all the big, it didn’t take too long in spite of all the pinning.

It’s all relative, anyway. So much of this “time consuming” part just depends on what we are used to doing and how much time we tend to devote to other things.

I enjoyed once again, thinking about these shirts - how they used to be new and someone’s pride and joy. And so many of them still have such nice fabric. I am thrilled to be giving these thrift store finds one last life!

And so - a simple quilt that I think…so cute!!! I love it!
