Geometrics 7 - "Simple Blocks" finished
For those of us who came into quilting “not as a child” - we probably remember a quilt that made an impression on us - maybe it was the first one that we really “saw”. For whatever reason - the design, the person who was showing it or whatever…that particular quilt may have been part of your “quilt journey”.
I know that one of my early ones was one that my sister-in-law was working on. My husband and I were visiting my mother-in-law in Oregon shortly after we were married. While there, my husband’s younger sister visited and she had a quilt with her - in Amish colors. I don’t remember what the design was, but the colors totally “had me”. I loved it.
I wanted to know more, but she left and I didn’t have a chance to ask her more about it. Life went on, my husband began to pursue his PhD and so our life evolved…and that early impression of a quilt stayed with me. Ever since that quilt - I’ve enjoyed the colors of the Amish quilts I’ve seen.
This quilt is a nod to my sister in law, who, unbeknownst to her, helped influence my own personal quilt journey. I’m sure she has no idea.
I’ll also add that my brother was a pastor in the Amish/Mennonite area of PA for years and years and we visited the area more than once. Once when visiting there, I was so impressed by the Amish men’s deep purple shirts.
This particular design used just the 4.5” squares and some very small pieces of geometrics in the cornerstones. There is no real border to it, to it went together very quickly!
As usual - the quilt roll:
Here is this cute little quilt hanging on the line in our front yard. It’s only 51’x61” so quite small compared to what I usually do!
I have updated the Geometrics page and the pattern is on the Free Patterns page.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
Colors may vary slightly from what is portrayed. Screens vary as well as our eyes sometimes see things differently, but we've made every attempt to have the color be accurately portrayed.
