Pieces Blowout - Extravaganza: What happens and why do we do it?
Pieces. Pieces and more pieces. These things can be our bane or our blessing!
What is a piece? What is this “Pieces Blowout” that I keep talking about and advertising? Let me explain with pictures!
Whenever we come to the end of a bolt or to the end of cutting one of my infamous bundle packs, we end up with a piece of fabric left that is less than a full yard. Since we only sell full yards on the site, we end up collecting a lot of these remnant pieces.
However, how often has someone come in and said, “I just need one more 6” piece to finish my quilt.”? Well, that happens just about every time we’re open. Because of that, we do NOT destroy, mutilate, cut up or otherwise randomly get rid of these valuable pieces of fabric! Some would consider them scraps. We consider them important!
Instead of tossing, we package them up and offer them at a reduced price on a rack inside the store.
Well, because we have been working at breakneck speed over this whole COVID break, and because we haven’t been able to be open for multiple months this past year, to the regular walk-in customers, we have developed a huge backlog of these pieces!
We decided back in August, to do our first ever PIECES BLOW OUT for our birthday week! It was a blast, tons of fun and we all had a grand time!
We decided to do it again!
During this time, we set up our class sign ups and we spread out the pieces throughout our Sewin’ Shop, so that people can see them somewhat. We try to organize them at least somewhat by color, type or specialty item. We offer them at buy three, get one FREE! What a bargain for these already reduced fabrics!
We decided that the end of October was another great time to have our next Pieces Blowout. Our last one had been so successful, we figured we should do it again!
So we scheduled it for Oct. 27 and started advertising it in the emails that I send out to the locals!
Talk about exciting! It’s fun to see all of the thousands of pieces that we have spread out in trays, sorted by color and type!
I know it’s thousands because this past Tuesday we sold 880 of those pieces and you can barely tell that we made a dent in them. Without counting, we figure we stuff about 50 to 60 pieces per tray, so we sold right around 12 to 15 trays worth, but you certainly couldn’t tell it.
When all was said and done, it appeared that they had been reproducing while we were selling!
So, it looks like we’ll be scheduling another time of fun, class signups and selling in the near future.
We’ll probably try to have one of these times every other month throughout the winter months in order for us to be able to get more of these amazing pieces into your hands as well as meet the needs of those who just want tiny pieces for masks or to finish up a task.
Enjoy the views as you look at what we’ve got and some of the fun that we had.
