Noble Packages feedback - families 1 and 2

Many of you helped with the Noble Packages outreach that we did in December.

Thank you so much!

I thought it was time to let you know the results of those.

Each of the handlers sent an email with a letter that told us about the family and their reactions to their gifts.

The letter was individualized for us - depending on the situation. I wanted to share with you what I received so you could know.

Before I go on - I did have some money leftover. I had about $250 leftover PLUS the 6000 zl that I have kept out for the dad in family 1 so that he can take the truck driving school.

I am going to save whatever money is actually leftover (I will have a bit if he doesn’t actually qualify for the school - he has to take pass both a physical and mental exam to qualify for the schooling) for the 2021 Szlachetna Paczka action (Noble Packages). I can buy food - non perishables like tea, coffee, sugar, flour as early as November for this outreach in December. Working ahead would make my life easier. :)

The handler for family 1 will be in touch with me during this year as the dad works towards taking a truck driving course. I am bringing this up now because we just now finished the official Christmas season and people can get back to normal life now. Schools will start up soon and we can see about finishing up these things.

So here goes.

FAM 1

This family consisted of a mom and dad plus 5 children ages 1 year to 15.

We ended up getting for this family -

  • the offer of the driving school so the man could better support the family

  • a blood sugar measuring device for their 11 year old Type1 diabetic child

  • lots of food

  • cleaning supplies

  • clothing as requested including sleepers for the 1 year old, a coats, shoes, and also gift certificates for the older girls to choose their own shoes

  • a desktop computer and 2 tablets so they could better do school at home

  • 8 matching chairs so they could all sit at the table together

  • quilts for each child plus a big quilt for the couple

  • a blanket for each - microfiber - very soft

  • a set of towels for each person

  • new pillows for each and pillowcases that went with the children’s quilts (taken from the charity quilts)

  • perfume for the girls, a set of cosmetics for the man, a computer game for the son (Need for Speed) and a Playmobil tractor for the 1 year old. I also gave the teen girls some other clothing and the 11 year old girl a set of nice coloring pencils and an adult coloring book of animals - very detailed. Also we gave the 11 year old boy a couple of “toys” - something Star Wars and another toy appropriate for his age.

This is the letter I got from the handler.

(I’m running it through Google translate so the translation might not be the best:)

Thank you for helping those who are out of luck.

We invite you to read the impressions of the Family (FAM 1) and the Volunteer from the Weekend of Miracles, during which your parcel reached the Family.

Reaction to the meeting where the family received the presents:

The family couldn't wait until we come, however numer of the gifts much exceeded their expectations. At the beginning we could see joy in their eyes, but with upcoming following presents it began to be overwhelming and they weren't sure how to react. Only when they started opening presents we saw that they are getting happy again from the gifts that they received. The loudest was Kacper who was getting more happy and more surprised with each upcoming present (I'm not sure whether computer or hand made blanket made him more excited). The youngest one was playing with excavator babysitting by one of oldest sisters. It seemed that Jadwiga was more happy with some art supplies than the MiaoMiao2. However the device for daughter was calming for mum. She was really pleased with set of cosmetics. Nevertheless the biggest news I left at the end, information about driving license course, this really made dad and the rest of the family happy. My colleague noticed that when he read the information his eyes started smiling. Two oldest girls were not that much revealing however they were in good mood.
Afterwards I talked with mum over the phone and she said that they are more than happy from what they received. They would like to make a good use of those things and be able to help others in the future.

Word from the family:

The family wanted to thank you but after receiving the gifts they decided to do it in person (though the phone). Still before they gave me little gift from them to you that I would like to give you.

Word from the volunteer:

I'm really happy that I had opportunity to meet you! I'm impressed that even though you are running charity organization you are still spent time with helping though Szlachetna Paczka. What's more you haven't only prepared the gifts but also put effort into sowing unique blankets dedicated for each member of the family according to their interests. Family also was impressed by those blankets and all other gifts. During the meeting they were happy but still overwhelmed. When they processed the situation, calm down and even more appreciated the situation. It really made me feel great that I was middleman of such a great gift, looking how much effort you put to pull it together and how it's being appreciated. In following meetings I'll be trying to help family to make good use of computers showing what great things they can learn thanks to it to have larger knowledge and better future. Thank you for cooperation and wish you all the best especially in upcoming Christmas! :)

One thing to note - they called me to say “Thank you” - right away! It was really sweet. They also asked us to come over for tea/coffee. I thanked them. Maybe we will someday. They live a bit of distance from us, so it isn’t as if we can just hop over there.

They did come over to our house a few days later to get the receipt for the miao miao2 device for checking blood sugar. This will let them make sure if there is a problem, they can get it replaced as I bought the year guarantee.

FAM 2

The second family was simply 2 people - a grandma and her grandson.

We got for this family -

  • 2 tons of coal which will provide them with heat for the winter

  • food

  • cleaning supplies

  • clothing for the grandson - including a sweat suit and some trousers - sort of like Dockers.

  • clothing for the grandmother including a coat, pajamas, a black dress, and a burgundy robe

  • a blanket for each of them (soft - microfiber)

  • a nice pair of tennis shoes for the grandson

  • a special pair of winter boots for grandma for people with bunions

  • a charity quilt for both

  • a set of duvet cover covers - music themed for the guy and a dark set for the grandma

  • a new pillow and a new duvet for each

  • a tv - 40” for the grandma - it’s her only source to the outside as she rarely goes outside

  • set of flatware

  • set of dishes

  • a new toaster

  • a set of knives and a knife block

  • a new laptop for the grandson as his old one was very old.

  • for the grandson he also requested a set of guitar strings and I got him a nice guitar strap (it was really pretty!) and the grandma - a night light that is motion sensitive and sweets for a diabetic.

This is the letter I got from the handler:

We invite you to read the impressions of the family (FAM 2) and the volunteer from the Weekend of Miracles, during which your package has reached the family.

Report from the meeting with the family when handing over the package:

The family was waiting for us volunteers impatiently. After a warm welcome, Mr. Darek and his grandmother started opening the packages. With each subsequent opening, you could hear greater and greater shouts of joy. Grandma was touched and happy because of the huge amount of food and beautiful gifts that the family dreamed of. Mr. Darek told us that it is their happiest day in life. It was a great evening, full of joy. The family will remember it for a long time.

A word from the Family:

The family asked for her thanks, wishing you good health and happiness in life.

A word from a volunteer:

I would like to thank you and your family for the wonderful preparation of packages and gifts for the family. The conversations with the lady during the preparations were very kind, factual and specific to me. Thank you once again and I wish you all the best, only good and wonderful moments in your life for you and your family.

Thank you for accompanying us in helping those less fortunate in life. Only together can we make moving stories like those described in the 2020 Gap Report only less.

It's good that you are there!

The SZLACHETNA PACZKA team

They also gave us a phone call saying “Thank you!” That was very sweet! It may be the first time I’ve talked to a lady over 70 - in English while here in Poland.

So here you go - I have wanted to pass along the feedback that I’ve gotten from the handlers. I appreciate you all and all the gifts you gave us so we could pass them along!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Stay safe!
