UP Greens #21 Top finished - “Shadowy”

I couldn’t resist. I mean. Could I?

All those florals mixed in with my greens - so of course, I just HAD to make a simple shadowed quilt.

I like it when the shadow is a bit bigger - as it makes the block feels like it is just jumping off the background.

Here it is!

I will admit - I had a hard time finding space on my floor in order to take the photo!

Once again - I used all florals. I’d like to be able to say I’m done with them - but that’s a joke, right?

You all do understand that these fabrics just breed when we’re not watching.

My sis put all these florals in the “greens” box - just because there is a lot of green in these particular florals.

The gray was a duvet cover. So was the green in the middle.

The outer border was a curtain.

This particular pattern goes together so quickly - it is really something anyone can do.

The block looks like this: It finishes at 8”x8”. Before being sewn into the quilt it is 8.5”x8.5”.

Every time I make any variation of this design, I like it.

If you use that bigger shadow, that square seems to jump off the background more than a smaller shadow does. I like all of them. If you want to do more planning, you can work with various sizes of blocks.

In this one, I used 3.5” x 8.5” cut sashing pieces for between the blocks and long 3.5” cut sashing for between the rows.

Anyway, I’ve made various quilts using the shadow blocks.

Let me show you.

The point I’d like to make is that with this effect, you can use a single fabric as a plain square OR make a block and frame it with the shadow. The one that I called Confetti has the blocks twisted and turned - to make a completely different look.

So…if you’ve not made such a simple quilt - don’t be afraid - (if you like it, that is) - go for it!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Thanks for coming along with me on my quilting/sewing journey!
