What's up?
As Thanksgiving Day comes closer, it’s time to think about that.
No, it’s not a holiday in Poland.
Yes, we do celebrate it. To me, it is one of the few holidays left that hasn’t been commercialized! (except by quilting/fabric stores!) Even when it is commercialized - it is minimal compared to other holidays in the year.
So what does that involve? This year we’ve invited some other missionaries who live about 20-25 minutes from us to come and spend time with us and eat our meal with us. Of course the wife, Jolie, will bring food! She’s a good cook!
But because it isn’t a holiday here in Poland, naturally it’s not talked about. We have to remember to order a turkey which is normally my husband’s job - a few days ahead. We then can get it (usually) the day before Thanksgiving and I will fixit on that morning/day. I like to use a cooking bag so it literally does not take all day to cook. The days of my loving to spend all day in the kitchen are OVER. It’s not fun to me - not at all. I don’t hate it - just don’t particularly enjoy it. If someone else cooked all the time, I’d not complain!
I’d like to streamline Thanksgiving to spending the least possible time in the kitchen as possible. As far as I know, it will just be the four of us at our dinner.
But we’ll be thinking of our American friends.
I’ve never made a single thing out of fabric to commemorate Thanksgiving. Not a table runner, quilt, or even a mug rug or hot pad. Nothing. Isn’t that sad?
I don’t know. Have you?
(I will say I’ve made several quilts out of the fall colors - those I do enjoy.)
We do have a few panels that feature the theme of Thanksgiving and fall. I do like the ones like that can be used longer than just a week or two out of the year.
So…tell me. Do you have any Thanksgiving day related traditions that somehow connect to fabric? Have you made a special table runner or tablecloth or ANYTHING you use on this day that is coming up in less than a week?
Just curious.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Thanks for coming along with me on my quilting/sewing journey!
Today (Thurs.) I’ve been checking for one more family to help that is local. I’ve also worked a bit on the next UP Greens quilt, I did some shopping, fixed dinner, and all that other stuff people do. Not much blog fodder today - at least not a lot of things I’m ready to show you!
AND
Don’t forget - if you want to help with the Noble Packages outreach, we are not at our $8000 goal yet so we could use your help! So far this year, we’ve received $6500. Thank you so much!
If you do want to help with it - check it out here!
Thanks again!
In a bid to at least let it feel like Autumn, I’ll show you in a gallery format, all the quilts I’ve made with these colors - even if they aren’t entirely Autumn themed at all. I’ll tell you a secret - and it won’t be a secret anymore…I’ve started a “Checkered” with the autumn colored second-hand pieces I have. LOL. Actually I started it a while ago now - it’s in a bucket near my sewing machine. I need to give it some love now that I’m feeling free as to what I’m doing!
So…while I’ve not made a single Thanksgiving quilt - I suppose I could pull out one of these - as most of these are in my house.
I think what I’m surprised about in all of my quilt-making- is that I’ve not made MORE quilts with the warm, autumn tones to them. I like them - but I think I’m naturally drawn to a different color scheme, so I have to actually focus on making a quilt with these colors.
Anyway…back to my question for you - have YOU made a Thanksgiving…something? Table runner, quilt, placemats, etc? Let me know in the comments!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store here!
Here’s one of the beauties we have!
