Found - another (very) local fabric source! Cottye
Last week when I was in our local findings wholesale shop and began talking to a fellow seamstress, I heard her mention a certain fabric shop that was local. Well, not as local as that shop which is only about a half mile from our house, but local - as in about 12 min. away by car.
I decided to give them a visit. They have an extensive on line store, so I first visited there, checking out what they have for sale, and then decided to visit them. My husband and I went to Lidl the other day, and it is just beyond Lidl in a town called Karczew. So, we drove there, and noticed that they weren’t open yet.
Fine. We went home. I went back either the next day or the day after that - I don’t remember which day.
I went. I bought some fabrics. I came home.
First of all, I had decided to buy a few meters of what they called “premium” cottons (5 meteres in fact - cost just over $10/meter) which I’ve never seen elsewhere, and spend some more on some of the other fabrics, which were from Kejt, the producer that my husband and I went to see and buy from about a month ago now.
These are the premium cottons I bought. I’ll admit, I did buy the donuts just because I thought it’d be fun!
The brand on these expensive fabrics is “Indigo”. I’d never heard of this brand, so I will look it up.
The other fabrics I bought - I knew that Kejt didn’t have any more currently, such as bright red, or brown dots. Let me show you pictures from the trip.
When I drove up, I already knew where it was because we had found the exact location when I attempted to come in the early morning but it wasn’t open yet.
They are mostly an on line store. That was obvious as I was the only one shopping at the moment.
When I walked in, a young man came out of the office and asked me what I was looking for. I told him “Cotton.” He directed me to the back of the building.
Here it was.
Here are some close ups of the fabrics - most of these look like they came right from Kejt, the fabric store in Radom that we bought a lot from. I did appreciate that as I could see the fabrics up close and even touch them - something I really didn’t have time to do at the manufacturer’s place.
I could also just buy a meter - and get it out of my system and to see if I really did like the design and want to buy a whole bolt of it (50 meters).
I had wanted some brown polka dots to work with my brown fabrics from the Big Fabric Haul, but that was a color that the manufacturer doesn’t have in stock. I spotted some on this roll! Great!!! Yeah!
The same with the bright red. I did buy red from that big buying trip a month ago now - but what I bought was a darker red so I picked up about 6 meters of a brighter Christmas red. I bought all that they had. I also bought the ends of four other pieces - the two solids and the brown polka dots and the light brown polka dots - I took “all they had”.
The guy who measured fabric for me - looked to be about 22 or so, gave me a small piece (not so small - I measured it - it was a meter) as a “Thank you”.
As it is an animal print - I will be able to use it somehow in with the charity quilts..
Here’s what I came home with!
This place also has Eko skora or some sort of imitation leather and a different imitation leather. I’d like to buy a piece of it and try to make a vinyl type purse with it.
So…what did I think?
It seemed “empty” - that was my initial impression. Like they have a lot more room than they have fabric. I imagined my sis with all that space!!! :)
Then, in the back where the cottons were, it seemed very “thrown around” - not very neat. I guess I’m kind of spoiled by stores - even wholesale ones - in the US. But then I remembered that most of these ‘bolts’ aren’t really wound on a bolt - they are folded back and forth, back and forth. It means after you open it and start working it it, it is a mess.
But after I got over that initial impression, I was fine with it. The worker was friendly and they treated me well. I didn’t really get a better price than if I had purchased on line, however. I was thinking I might. Maybe that was where the free meter of fabric comes in, I don’t know. I will definitely go back. I don’t always need or even want 50 meters of everything. Sometimes just a few is all I really want. On the other hand, buying a few meters of it there will let me know if I really want more of it.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Thanks for coming along with me on my quilting/sewing journey!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store here!
Here’s one of the beauties we have!
