Two Thousand Dollars for a Single Quilt!
“Two THOUSAND Dollars?” Was I hearing correctly?
“Two THOUSAND DOLLARS?” I couldn’t believe my ears. Donna Hammel asked to see me one day recently while I was cutting fabric and said she had something to give to me.
It was a check for $2,095 for the Ukraine Relief Fund.
“How did you do that?” I queried.
I was in shock, actually. Maybe not total shock, just totally surprised! I mean, the Ukrainian quilt drive had been over since mid-May.
“How?” I asked again. I couldn’t believe it.
Right there, in the store, she told me the tale of the Ukraine Raffle Project.
It all started when we put out these super pretty Royal Blue and Yellow/Gold Ukraine colors half yard bundle.
She bought one and proceeded to make it up into the below shown quilt top.
Then, Elaine Donnelly, of Hudson, one of our QT Facebook moderators, helped out by quilting it on her long arm, as her gift to the project.
Then, the West Pasco Quilt Guild stepped in to help with the project, as did the United Methodist Women’s Club of the First United Methodist Church of New Port Richey.
They went to town selling raffle tickets. And boy did they sell raffle tickets.
Two thousand nine five dollars worth, in fact!
Vonnie Maytum was the winner of the beautiful quilt. She was very surprised and grateful to have won this beautiful quilt.
I told Becky about the money raised, and she was as impressed as I was!
We do thank you and we take all this work seriously. We know that you have put a lot of work into this beautiful project, and we’ll be sure that the money is used to its fullest!
This whole #QuiltsforUkraine project has been filled with people who have given of their utmost.
As it’s winding down, we both cannot thank everyone enough for all that they have put into it, in every way!
We know that we’ll never know of all the far-reach effects of our efforts!
It is lovely to know that our skills and abilities have been used to encourage, bless and take care of those who are in unfortunate situations.
Becky added -
Becky wants to add that every single Ukrainian person who has helped me on this end has been so grateful and appreciative of all the work that you put into this project. As they handle each quilt, they know that collectively the man hours put into these quilts is enormous. They are touched.
