What colors do you like with teal?

I have one big piece of teal left and a couple of smaller pieces. I thought it would be good for me to use up these pieces before I put this series of UP greens to bed.

Here they are.

I’m asking you for colors that go.

What do YOU like with this color?

I asked google and they said “White”.

I laughed.

I’ve been using white with my greens all along.

I’m looking for something specific. The Betty Boop fabric has some hot pink or raspberry in it. Maybe that would work as a coordinate. The teal with the flowers in it also has pink. Maybe that’s a clue. But I don’t have to use them. I do want to use the big piece of solid teal.

Any ideas here as to color combination with the teal specifically?

And..

I promised a better picture of that piece that will become a whole cloth quilt. I believe I will save it for learning on my long arm when I get it….as I think that could be fun. But if that all doesn’t work out, doesn’t matter - I want to quilt it using the fabric design as the foundation for the quilting. I briefly (very briefly) considered cutting it into a sort of attic windows or French door type quilt - but threw that out as it is so big, any wobbles or mis-cuts would ruin it. I’d rather just leave it as it is. It’s too pretty to mess up and I don’t think I’d make it better by cutting it up.

I finished up trimming up from this box.

I’m working on another top using white and greens - but have some strips in sizes 1.5”, 2” and 2.5” I’d like to whittle down. I’d prefer to use use up more of the strips or I could throw them in with my monthly strips. I don’t have a problem doing that.

There are quite a few of the 1.5” strips. Probably enough for another quilt- which I actually do have planned and will work on later this week. But using such small strips - things take a while.

But this time - this post - it’s about the teal. The fabric is leftover from a tablecloth we used all during our deputation years. Deputation, for those of you who aren’t familiar with it, is when missionaries go from church to church to share their vision and see if that church would like to support them monthly. We did that back in the early 90’s. We used that teal fabric for that as a tablecloth on top of the various church tables as we put our promo stuff on it - and I got really tired of it. I mean, REALLY tired of seeing it. It’s a little thicker than normal quilting fabric so I don’t really want to cut it into tiny pieces or try to make HST from it unless I just snowball corners.

Once when I first was using second-hand fabrics I tried to make nice HST from upholstery fabrics - and wondered why I couldn’t get good looking corners. Not only was I new to quilting, but the fabrics were simply too thick to use for those designs. I learned never to do that again. I had stopped and it went into a UFO pile.

I changed my mind as to the size of that particular top. It had languished as a UFO for years until after I had been quilting for a while, I took it out of my stack and looked at it with new eyes. I realized I didn’t need to stick with my original idea - which was based on “no experience”. Because I had worked on it and spent both time and money, I hesitated to throw it it out even though I was unhappy with the look. Anyway…I did finish it up- making it smaller than originally intended and moved it on out of my house. Someone took it as a charity quilt. Win/win.

Anyway….back to the question. If you’ve had great success combining teal with a certain color or have an idea for me - just let me know in the comments. I’m all ears.

Have a great day - and thanks for reading!
