5 Easy but Effective Quilt Ideas for Charity or Quick Gifts
As I’ve been working with these gifted quilts - I can’t help but check them out as I work with them. Now sometimes it is pretty quick - and the biggest question I have about some is “Which pillowcase will look good with this one?” At times I am not feeling quite as rushed, and I really take time to appreciate them.
Let me share a few ideas with you that have come out. Having so many sitting around, my husband notices some and appreciates many of them. He’s a softie for the Civil War colors - the browns and all the earth tones. Other times the ladies who are helping me pack up have commented on some.
Most of the time they aren’t commenting on the design of the quilt - but usually the colors or the message, if there is one.
Sometimes we quilters get all caught up in complicated designs. It is possible to forget in the challenge of making a new design that non quilters might not truly appreciate fancy patterns or designs - especially people who don’t sew. But I tell you what they ALL appreciate - colors they love and/or messages - for example, panels.
Here are 5 ideas that I’ve been seeing.
Simple squares or rectangles
Simple squares on point
9 patches - sashed
Panel - framed with borders -
Color is the most important. The second quilt here has fancy borders - but the colors/theme are what makes it.
Simple checkerboard made with carefully chosen/coordinating colors.
All of these quilts I’ve shown here are effective and someone is going to love them. You never need to feel bad about giving away a simple quilt. Let me assure you - It is FINE!
I realize most of you know all of these things - but this is just a reminder - from this side of the ocean.
If you have an overactive conscience that somehow thinks that making a quilt with a panel is somehow ‘cheating’ - let me assure you - it’s not. (The word cheating needs to be crossed out of your vocabulary when it comes to quilting, BTW!)
Thank you again again for reading!
Note: Thanks to those of you who have donated these quilts which I’ve been able to use in this post today. I can’t give credit to you because I really have no idea who you are! I hope this is enough. If one of these quilts is yours, please feel free to identify yourself in the comments!
Thanks again for coming along with me on this journey!
