Quilt Drive Update

After a full day, we’re happy to report that we have filled the back end of two vans. You were absolutely amazing!

The generosity of the local quilters has been mind-bogglingly amazing.

The smiles of relief and gladness to be able to participate and do something that feels real, like making and donating a quilt, were very evident on Thursday when people began bringing quilts in by the bags and box fulls.

I couldn’t count the quilts, because most people didn’t even seem to know how many they had. “I wanted to bring an even dozen, but then someone gave me an extra one to add,” one sweetheart chimed.

Another representative brought me 16 quilts from their Ladies’ Bible study group in Inverness. Another couple came from Tampa. Another lady drove up from Valrico just to bring us quilts.

I was just in shock all day long.

We had so many quilts that I couldn’t use the register to check people out any more, after being open for a couple of hours! Thank you!

Generous people brought quilts of all sizes, shapes, colors, difficulties. The couple on the left (below) brought a collection of hand quilted quilts, that they just want to be used.

Another lady told me that her Mom had started it many years before, and she had just finished it off, 45 years later! She was glad to be able to pass it on.

There were several others who dropped things off, or who gave quilts to me, but I didn’t have my camera ready.

The one thing in common was that they were exceedingly joyful in being able to give back. They want to be sure that the Ukrainians know that they are loved, cared about, and possibly even related to someone over here in the United States.

“This is so much better than having the quilts sitting in the closet,” one lady said. “We’re glad we could help.”

We will continue the drive for a while, with us trying to get a first load out at the end of next week.

So, please keep on quilting and sewing and binding. You are appreciated. You are loved, and we are grateful to be able to do this to share our expression of love to these extremely needy people.

I thank you. Becky thanks you. The rest of our staff thanks you. Most of all, the people of Ukraine, who are in no position to thank anyone, will hopefully feel the love that was poured into these quilts, and know that they are appreciated and cared about. True love gives without expecting anything in return.

I saw a great deal of true love poured out on Thursday in the form of quilts. It made me smile, laugh, and often times brought tears of gratitude to my eyes.

If you’re in Florida, feel free to continue to drop quilts off to Quilted Twins, 13829 US Hwy 98 ByPass, Dade City, FL.

If you’re in Greenville, SC, our brother, David Tillman (Our maiden names are Rachael Tillman and Becky Tillman), has a cell phone that you can call or text to arrange a pickup. That number is ‪(813) 767-7393‬; As of late Thursday night, he said that no one had contacted him yet.

If you know of someone in the G’ville, SC area, please forward this to them.

Thank you seems too little, but it’s all I’ve got right now… So… “Thank you”
