Refugee Camps in Ukraine!

As many people as have left Ukraine for safer countries, there are even more displaced persons in Ukraine itself.

People have fled the hot spots in eastern Ukraine and headed to the quieter regions in the western parts of Ukraine. Recently my husband had contact with a man who has a camp with 100 beds. He said he can always take bedding if I have extra. Gladly.

PLUS, he said he knows of another place that is close by that has 1000 people! So, I can feel free to send whatever I have and want to share. They can use ANYTHING I have.

That was wonderful! This person, Sergei, is only just over 3 hours away - close to the Polish border.

If you live in the US - think of a major town or place 3 hours, maybe 3 hours, 15 min. from your home.

That’s as far as it is for us to drive to the closest border with Ukraine. For those in Dade City, that means the FL state line straight up I-75. For people in Atlanta, a trip to Charlotte, NC might fit that. For those in Fairbanks, AK, maybe a trip to Anchorage would do it. That’s how close it is to Ukraine for us.

Here’s a map.

The map of the country with the overview

I have had some duvets and duvet cover sets at the church for a couple of weeks now. I think I will send several of them on down to Ukraine with some food and other supplies. I decided to take 4 of them to the local women’s shelter (where I’ve taken the underwear) as they are looking for them as well but I know that if they would just put out the word here - they’d have as many as they want. Since these are new, however, I know they are in demand.

The cover seat is inside the outer covering protecting the duvet.

I went through and put the cover set (a duvet cover and a pillowcase) inside the packaging with the actual duvet so that it all stays together as a set. I think I have over 22 sets ready to go besides the ones that went to the “Jozefow stop” place where we’ve taken many things.

Then, I’ve shared with you about those charity quilt sets. Well, these were the first 6, but I finished the whole first 10 sets. I am working on the next ten, albeit slowly. I have the quilts finished - as Ewa brought me several and I quilted several - but I just have to get them bound and washed.

I had had to move these finished 10 charity quilts plus blankets and such to the long arm room which is currently still waiting for a long arm (still waiting on my residency card renewal).

But these sets are wonderful. It’s still freezing at night, so warm covers are still a necessity in this part of the world.

First we put things that we had here at the house in the back of the trailer, then headed to the garage at the church building where we had collected things.

I decided to let go of these. At first I thought I’d keep them for people who are settling in here in Poland. However, the idea that in one place there are about 1000 people convinced me that these can be used immediately in Ukraine in one of those places NOW. Within a day or two. So, I moved them on out.

It’s fine.

We are making more and I have a feeling we’ll have more quilts coming our way. :) Hopefully soon!

Maybe they can bring comfort to someone who has possibly lost everything. The stories can break your heart.

I think there are 22 sets here with the duvet and cover set. I think there are only about 7 pillows, though. But they can use their arms, a purse or another piece of fabric as a pillow if need be.

To make a long story short, the bus that my husband thought he was going to send things down on on Monday didn’t work out. So, he and Tim, our guest, decided to rent a trailer and just fill it up ourselves and meet our contact in Ukraine with all the goodies we had collected. This is a first run for my husband - and a sort of trial to see how it might work. Since with this kind of thing, they usually run out of weight space before actual space, I thought they could fill it up with these sets and pillows - and my bagged up goodies of a quilt, blanket, bottom sheet, pillow, pillowcase and small towel.

I know my video skills stink, but I still thought a short, 30 second video might help you see what I saw. If I knew how to edit it, I would, but learning during this busy time just isn’t going to cut it. So, ”It is what it is”. I apologize in advance for the completely amateur video that it is.

Enjoy! As I work on this blog post in the late evening of Monday - my husband is not yet back from the trip he and Tim took. Hopefully they will be back before midnight. We are praying so anyway. I’m heading for bed so I can use tomorrow profitably.

Thanks again for reading along me with today!
