When I opened all of those boxes of quilts from you all, there were lots of pillowcases. Lots.

In the end, to the best of my counting, we had about 3000 regular quilts and about 5400 pillowcases!

That means that as we tended to put in 1 pillowcase with each quilt, that would leave us with approximately 2400 excess pillowcases. I will say that we had a lot of flannel pillowcases donated so we mostly gave them as bonus pillowcases. I also took out some pillowcases as they were the wrong size. If they were stained, they didn’t make the cut either. However, I counted everything when taking inventory.

What do I do with them all?

At first I was perplexed. Not sure what to do.

Do you have any ideas?

Of course, “Ship them to Ukraine” is the obvious answer - after all, they were made for them!

However, I was afraid of the people there not knowing what to do with them in case there are no pillows that fit them. Often they use the bigger pillows - which won’t fit in those cases. That would be a waste, wouldn’t it?

So, I decided that with loads heading to Ukraine where I don’t have a lot of quilt packs - esp. after we are finished with them - I am planning on including new pillows and pillowcases.

So, I’ll send 100 pillowcases for each 50 new pillows so that people can have two pillowcases for each pillow.

My job now is to pack up 100 pillowcases in a box so that I can have them ready to match up with a box of 50 pillows. I can buy pillows here that are squished - without air. I will do that. Then I will pair them with these boxes of pillowcases. People in Ukraine can match them up and distribute. I’m ready to move all these pillowcases out of here! :) Once I get everything boxed up, I can move them to the garage at church where they can be waiting to be put on the trailer along with pillows.

Just so they don’t get confused with boxes of other things, I’m going to make up some BIG signs on bright pink or yellow paper and tape it to the top and sides of these boxes.
