In Case You Missed It

The Amazon owned www.fabric.com website has been closed.

Yep.

Two days ago now.

On the bookmark/header when I went to the site - it said this

I thought putting “Thank you and goodbye” on the header was cute.

I didn’t even realize it til today - the 21st. The 20th was the last day the website was working. The day you are reading this is the 22nd. Two days gone already!

So…if you already knew this - well, good for you. However, I didn’t. I only saw it on YouTube and then from Rachael today.

While it may not be earth-shattering to you - after all, we have

www.QuiltedTwins.com!

But anyway, long before we started this company, I actually bought from them. Actually, I bought from them the last year before they were bought out by Amazon. After that, I didn’t buy from them anymore - or at least not much. Wait. So I guess I’m not telling it right. The last time I bought a LOT from them was back before Amazon bought them. After that, I did pick and choose. I do think I bought a bit of this fabric from them.

Rachael didn’t have any of that fabric - those Matryoshka doll fabric.

But maybe I bought it on Ebay.

I guess I don’t remember.

Anyway, so I was gobsmacked to know they are shut down.

For those of you who buy quilting fabric, you probably won’t feel it.

If you are a garment shopper, maybe it will affect you much more than that.

If you are looking for quilting fabric and used to buy from fabric.com - be sure to check out US - Rachael has 12000 bolts! That’s a lot of fabric! She also has a lot of bundles that no one else! Why is that? Because she puts them together - that’s why!

Let me share with you a couple of articles that might be interesting to you to find out more about this interesting event. According to the article I read, Amazon wanted the fabric.com division to operate in a way that just didn’t work well - everything in precuts.

Here’s the first article - from Craft Industry Alliance.

And here’s one to a website called Verge.

And here’s a You Tube video about it. This lady just makes me smile. She’s also from the Tampa area.

She also used to be a mainstream reporter, so she is very composed on camera. I like her Chatty Cathy style - would be a good backdrop for sewing. At least her title isn’t Click Bait, and I like her for that.

Most You Tubers are going to say “You Wouldn’t Believe what Website is being Shut Down”.

Then you’d have to click on that link and actually read the comments to find out quickly what website she was referring to since the content would be very slow in coming. So…kudos to Jen.

So…if this is news to you - it is completely understandable. If you were busy and actually didn’t stick by the computer all day because you were “doing something” - you missed it.

They didn’t actually give a lot of notice to everyone - not even the vendors.

So, now you know.

And now -

We have a request for you.

If you hear or see people bemoaning that this website is now kaput, please support us by telling your friends about our website. This is especially true for your friends who want quilting cotton.

We have very little that isn’t - but we do carry a few other things.

Since the rest of the website is pretty much all cotton -

Here’s a direct link to the rayon that we have.

So if you are looking for rayon or quilting cotton, that is pretty much what we have. If you come into the shop, there may be a few pieces here or there that might be what you’d like to get - but the selection isn’t all that large.

This whole blog post is a simple FYI (for your information).

My husband came back pretty late last evening and it was so good for him to be home! He builds a good fire and the house is actually warm for the first time since he left! :)

If the blog post is slightly disjointed, it’s because I’m trying to get it written while also hearing about things that happened within the last week! At least that’s my story…

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Thanks for coming along with me on this journey!

Feel free to browse the site.
