My Husband is Back!

My husband went almost two weeks ago now to a country in Central Asia.

While he was gone, I went with a lady named Jadwiga to a local school as she asked me to go with her.

I wasn’t sure why she wanted me to go, but I had some time and was able to go. I knew that I had given Jadwiga quite a few quilts for Ukrainian children and I thought maybe she was going to take me to a place to show me how many more were needed. Not long into the trip, she told me we were going to a place called Halinow. I know where that is because they have the headquarters of a second-hand clothing store that I like (Texland). I’ve been there several times - but not in the last few years since I have so much already. So while I’d been to the area, I’d never been anywhere else in the area.

I think they wrote my name that way because on my Facebook profile I use Becky Tillman Petersen - that’s to help childhood friends find me should they want to. So it made me chuckle when my husband got put on there as Tilman.

Anyway, we headed to a school. I found out on the journey that she actually had an appointment for 11:30. “We” had an appointment—Jadwiga and I. We were going to talk with the principal who was a friend of her husband’s when they were kids. I still didn’t know “why”. It’s not like Jadwiga and I are “good buds” - friendly, yes, but not best friends.

So, I went along. I kept waiting for the request…”more quilts”.

But that’s NOT what I got.

It is a thank you for quilts for the Ukrainian students.

Neither Jadwiga nor I know exactly how many quilts they got - but it was probably about 30.

The principal gave this to me after inviting us into her office and then offering us coffee or tea plus a piece of cake. We stayed for a while, then took a tour of the school - part of which is new, and part of which looked exactly like our children’s school from when they went to a primary school here in Poland. Then we came back home. That was the entire visit.

But I had to smile at the thank you note. It’s laminated.

I was able to get some of the sorting done of the “stuff” that has been in our room from when I had to remove things from my daughters’ room for company. I had a lot of unsorted pieces of second-hand clothing items that had been given to me that had been put into big shopping bags. I wanted to get all of the pieces put together color coded - but everything was pretty much everywhere.

I’m still working on that. I’ll show you the finished collection when I get done. Right now I’m not done - I keep having to go back and buy more bins!

Anyway…

Today when my husband came back today he brought me 3 pieces of fabric.

He didn’t even have a checked bag, so I’m very happy for each of these pieces.

He was in a country called Tajikistan. Probably most of you don’t even realize where that is. Let me show you.

He told me I should go with him next time. :)

I know I’ve been invited back to Kyrgyzstan to teach the ladies there about quilting. Maybe someday.

Here are the three pieces of fabrics I got. There are only 3 meters here - but there are 3 meters! :)

I had to smile at the names on the edges as well. Of course they are meaningless to me.

Thanks again for coming along with me on this journey! Have a great day wherever you are reading!
