"Beach Dreams"

While I was in Florida, my sis showed me this panel. She said, ‘I want us to do something with this - please make up a design.

Well, I had already made up a similar design (for a quilt I’ve never shown) - in fact, I made it back while mom was sick. With other fabrics/theme.

So, since I liked it, and have never actually shown you - I thought, Why not? - this would be a fine design (with a little tweaking) - for that panel.

We wanted to lighten it up a bit as the panel itself is quite dark. The theme, however, is not. So, in keeping with the theme - we wanted to do something to make it feel more fun.

So this is what I did.

I wanted to put the flip flops in the little squares of this quilt but we decided the colors would not work very well.

The outside fabric is flip flops. I knew from the beginning I wanted to use that fabric in it - as I fell in love with it when I saw it. I tried to work it into a different quilt (I’ll show it to the right) but my sis and others at the store vetoed it as knowing we had something better.

So, I got to use it here.

We got Beth and Doug Martin to quilt it and they got it back to us in FL right before I came back to Poland. Sorry about just now getting to share it, but we’ve been busy with the Shop Hop and all that is going on with that.

Here is the final product.

To say “I’m happy with it” is a serious understatement. I’m delighted with it!

I spent quite a while on the last evening I could get photos there in Florida - trying to make sure the lighting was right. The metal thing I’m pinning the quilts to is a line that is set up on a motor hoist, which is in my mom’s back yard. The sun goes behind the trees in her yard late in the day - and that is often when it is the best time to get photos. Early in the day the sun has a tendency to wash out the colors. I spent quite a while outside getting photos - both of the the more sunny kind and then some with the sun behind the trees (about a half hour later).

I was also looking for some wind to make some flipping in the breeze effect. I find it much easier to take a good photo when it is deadly calm outside, but my sis likes the movement in some of the photos.

As you can see, we chose a footprints in the sand theme for the quilting - a theme we had used before. But it seemed so perfect for this particular quilt.

I was able to use that amazing flip flops fabric for the outer border. Rachael had the perfect blue to put around the panel and to use as the binding - not too dark/not too light.

Overall, we are super pleased and excited to offer this kit to you!

Here are some closeups of the quilting.

Do you like it? We here at Quilted Twins hope you do. This is a kit - which is available here - and is available now for only $69 .

The pattern will be included in the quilt kit if you order it, but if you just want the pattern, you can get it here - it’s only $5. Obviously this same design would work with pretty much any of those 24” panels.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey! Have a great day wherever you are reading!
