"Simply Sashed" - Loralie Designs Idea #2

As you know - I worked on my sewing room - cleaning out my big cabinet - actually completely going through it, taking out things I don’t think I’ll use (which wasn’t very much) and compiling like things together (for example, thread). I took out projects I wanted to go ahead and finish, which was most of the ones I found. Many were already in plastic shoe boxes, but upon another look, I thought, “I want to just go ahead and finish up these easy thing - why not?”

One of them was this top. It was almost all completely together - and this was from before I even wanted to make up a few patterns for Loralie fabrics - especially for use with her panels. (I’m sure it has been at least 2-3 years ago that I started it.)

But I had already started this one - and was almost done. Since I started this one - well, I have decided to up the fun factor with my patterns with her fabrics. However, this one was already mostly done, so I just finished it. I knew I didn’t want to take it back apart to do something to snazz it up a bit.

This top is 53”x59”. The border is a purple dot - one of Loralie’s designs. So many fun designs she has and if I were in Florida, I could have gone wild with it - but my own supply is limited to what I have on hand.

I do not know why I hadn’t already finished this one up. Maybe it’s because I don’t know a nurse to gift it to. Hmm.

My sister-in-law is a nurse but she’s also a cracker jack seamstress, and I feel a bit intimidated giving her anything I sew. So, maybe I’ll give it to her anyway.

Anyway, the sashing fabric on this is not a Loralie fabric - it was actually a sheet I bought from a store called Jysk because of the quality of the cotton fabric (and color). If I could do this one over, I might have chosen one of her fun polka dots as the sashing fabric - BUT I DIDN’T have it. So I used a solid. Then, upon coming back to Poland after being in FL and wanting to make these Loralie things has changed my outlook. I wanted to add something else from her fabrics so I chose this polka dot fabric as the border.

If I had an unlimited supply at hand, I could have made it different. You could do the same thing but with different fabrics - it’s a simple idea. But I did just frame each block with a 1.5” black strip - to kind of give some uniformity to the blocks AND to make them bit bigger. Then I sashed them with a nice sized sashing. Then I added a 1.5” cut black border and then a 5.5” cut border on the outside.

Yes, I like it. It’s something some resellers call a “bread and butter item”. It’s a basic - and this idea is a universal idea you can use for any of the panels we have that are blocks.

This particular one makes a perfect lap size quilt - not very large - but a nice sized, small-ish top. It’s about 53”x59”.

Loralie’s fabrics are so cute! We have some nurse fabrics by her - Here are some nurses, but it looks like we are out of this particular panel for now. I’m sure Rachael will get it back in if they have it.

So I’m so slow about making this one - if I had actually done it when I brought the panel here, there would be more to show.

But anyway, this is just to show you the IDEA behind how you can make up a panel of Loralie fabrics that are blocks. This particular idea is when the blocks are all the same size.

I’m working on one when the blocks are NOT all the same size. I’ve got an adorable panel that is sitting out and I’ve got some ideas for that one.

Have a great day - wherever you are. I know this isn’t particularly an exciting post. However, each one of these little projects I can get done (and I consider getting the top part done a HUGE step) - and ready to quilt - it does relieve my mind. I know quilting is a hobby and all that, but when you have so many little projects started and just lying around the sewing room, it can be a negative thing in my mind. This getting all my little ones does is like a clearing of my head.

Thanks so much for coming along with me!

Have a great day wherever you are reading!
