The Pasco County Fair - update!

I was up at the fair on Monday.

Just to give you a bit of back story. Rachael and Ken were asked last year to head up the Collera Cottage - the place where the handicrafts are displayed at our local county fair. They had never done anything like this before.

This year it is falling back to back with the Shop Hop, so once again, the pressure is intense, but since it is the second year, and not the first, it isn’t quite so bad. I spent the day with Ken and Rachael as they were up there all afternoon and into the evening.

Thank you everyone who contributed this year to the fair! We counted 71 of 72 quilts (baby size or larger) plus quite a few what we would call wall decorations that were quilted.

Thank you, everyone, who contributed.

Let me share some photos with you of what is happening.

I realized, after looking at these photos, that I did not get a good photo of all the quilts. So, let’s consider this the first part of them! There were more and I’ll do my best to get them photographed in the next couple of days.

With 71 or 72 baby/bigger quilts, we had a nice representation of quilts. Adding to that all the smaller quilted items, and quilts were a huge percentage of items. We’re trying to encourage other things in the future, but we were happy enough with the participation for this year. Rachael did not get her 444 items, but rather, we had about 285. However, there were more woodworking items than last year and fewer sewing.

We’re trying to get more drawing and painting type things as well.

If you participated, thanks so much! You helped make a decent turnout. We had heard that participation had been somewhat anemic in the last few years, so we are glad to see an improvement. We’d love to see even more young artists and designers. One young lady was only 16 and she did some amazing drawing and craft type projects. Hopefully some of her enthusiasm can spread to others around her and possibly encourage other young people to enter.

Oh - everything got one of three ribbons - a blue, red, or white ribbon and then one was a grand champion of that category plus a runner-up grand champion of that category. It was difficult to compare in some of the groupings, however, as comparing some craft items to others - wow. It’s just hard.

Anyway - it was all for fun, and to help show others around us what can be done in our own area. We know that a lot more people could enter - but it does take effort and time. We do appreciate those who have helped. You are appreciated! Thank you!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.

Thanks for coming along on my journey with me!
