July 2023 Strips cutting report - Saturday
I didn’t have a lot to cut up this month. Simply amazing, huh?
I’m sorry it’s so small. I did manage to trim up this amount as I worked on other projects this month. I did find one more bag in the sewing room - but mostly it just needs to be sorted, I think - not actually trimmed.
This meant that this month, all I did for cutting into strips was this much.
2.5” - .11 lbs.
2” - .11 lbs.
1.5” - .44 lbs.
It’s a pretty low month when the “big amount” isn’t even half a lb. isn’t it?
But that’s okay. I need to keep in the habit of this - even if I have low months. And I said last month that I might have some low ones until I get some more cut offs from charity quilts.
I’m considering actually making August a “Quilt 90 charity quilts” month. Can I do it? Hmm. I think I can if I focus. That would definitely give me new fodder for this ongoing project. I’m kind of tired of having my own goal hanging over my head.
Anyway…
Here are the totals from this year.
And here are the totals from when I started keeping track of what I was cutting.
This month I actually made several tops from my already cut into 2.5” strips - so the leftovers just went back into the bags - - not counted a second time. That’s probably mostly the reason I didn’t have a lot. When I made my Down on the Farm quilt top, I saved the few leftovers I had for a pillow or the back. That kind of thing. :) It wasn’t like I didn’t sew this month. That’s really not the case at all. The leftovers from the Sunny Forest top went back into the stash.
That saying, the equivalent of almost 1 lb of the 1.5” strips is still about the same weight of trimmed fabric as a single Jelly Roll or 2.5” strips roll (42 strips). So, it’s not too shabby, I suppose.
I did pull out the aqua that you see in this pile and put it on the table to be cut into 7.5” strips for that basket weave top I’m making from red/white/blue.
It’s all good.
Sorry for not having a great big report for you this month.
However, I’m actually encouraged if I could manage to keep up with the scraps and either designate them (like for a backing or binding or pillow) or cut them up or not have any. That actually is pretty exciting to me!
Thanks again for coming along with me on this journey!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
